1.1.3 Configuration Description
The purpose of this step is to define the QM Plant level
setting so that the QM relevant transaction can be
accessible at plant level.
Plant level settings are needed to be maintained.
Following setting at plant level can be managed through
this setting.
⚫ Version control for Master Inspection
⚫ Characteristics and Inspection method
⚫ Plant level sampling procedure
⚫ Code and selected set at plant level for valuation
⚫ Automatic usage decision waiting time
⚫ Usage Decision Codes for Plant level
In this step, you can change and supplement several
central controlling functions at plant level:
These controlling functions relate to the planning and
implementation of quality inspections; for technical
reasons they are collated in one table. The functions you
want to use for quality inspections determine which
settings are relevant for your requirements.
To be able to make comprehensive settings for the
functions you want to use, you must have maintained
the following Customizing tables:
Customizing tables
o Usage decision codes
o Characteristic weighting
o Defect classes

decision, Defect Location, Defect Type, Causes, Tasks, Action and
Complaint category.
In this step, you make settings for the catalogs you require for the
inspection characteristics. The following catalogs are usually delivered
with the standard system:
• Catalog 1: Characteristic attributes for qualitative characteristics
You must create selected sets at plant level for this catalog.
• Catalog 9: Defect types

their contents (e.g. characteristic attributes.
In this Node we define selected sets for characteristic Attributes In a
selected set, we bundle those code groups and codes that are required or
allowed for a specific purpose at plant level.
During inspection lot Result Recording, it is only possible to access the
Characteristic Codes using selected sets.
For each code contained in a selected set you make the following settings:

indicators for the master inspection characteristics and
inspection plan characteristics.
After you have specified in the control key whether or not
the indicators will be predefined and whether the
characteristic is quantitative or qualitative, you must define
various characteristic attributes.

have inspection plan if it is to be inspected, result recorded.
There may be some material type like Service material, for those
material types, it may be required to restrict creation of inspection
plan. This control is achieved through this setting.

the origin of the notification.
You can create quality notification types for the following
origins:
• Customer complaint
• Complaint against a vendor
• Internal problem notification
The origin includes an appropriate screen control in the
transactions for the notification.
With the notification type, you define the use of the
notification. In the standard system, there are the following
types of origin of the notification:
General Q-notification types Q*
⚫ Complaints against vendors Q1
⚫ Complaints filed by customers Q2
⚫ Internal problem notifications Q3
Q-notification types for recording defects for inspection lots F*
⚫ Defect records for a goods issue inspection F1

maintained in the global settings. From a quality
management standpoint, you may need to supplement
the predefined units of measurement, in order to:
⚫ Display measured values in a meaningful form
⚫ Have additional sample units of measure available
⚫ Represent inspection lot quantities as the number of
containers and the lot container
⚫ Define units of measurement for defect valuation purposes
