Criterion B
i. Manipulate the variables:
● IV-change (range) mention how range is changed and mention the
apparatus if used
● DV- measure(unit) write apparatus or device/apparatus used to
measure
● CV- discuss how to keep the CV constant, mention the values as well
ii. Research Question Format:
To what extent will the change in IV (range) affect DV (unit) while keeping CV
(values) constant throughout the experiment?
iii. Hypothesis Format:
● On increasing the value of the IV (range), the DV (unit) will
increase/decrease while keeping CV (values) constant throughout the
experiment.
● Therefore, DV is directly/inversely proportional to IV.
Iv. Design an observation table
● IV, DV with units
● Three trials and average in DV column
● 5 increments in the IV (mention the range)
● Keep DV empty, do not enter any data for DV
v. Design a method
● Materials/Equipments/Apparatus Required
● Steps in logical and chronological order
● Safety measures
● Error precautions

Criterion C
i. correctly collect, organize, transform and present data in numerical and/ or
visual forms
○ Collect & organize data - observations of the experiment in a table.
○ Transform and present data - Graph and numerical
Graph
● Title
● Table-data (and click on zoom fit)
● Label the x and y axes
● Best fit line formula: y1~mx1 + c
● Write down the scales for both x and y axes
ii. accurately interpret data and explain results using correct scientific
reasoning
● Accurately interpret data -
○ use the provided data (mention two data points from the table)
and state the proportionality.
○ Using the graph (use the value of m from the graph) if m (slope) is
positive then IV and DV are directly proportional if m (slope) is
negative then IV and Dv are inversely proportional.
● Explain result - use the data and scientific reasoning to arrive at the
result.
iii. evaluate the validity of a hypothesis based on the outcome of a scientific
investigation
● Validity - match the hypothesis with the data - if it matches then the
hypothesis is valid.
● Strengths/Limitations - check for:
○ IV, DV, CV
○ Units, range and values
○ Proportionality
○ Scientific reasoning
iv. evaluate the validity of the method based on the outcome of a scientific
investigation
● Validity - check if the pointers are catering to the need of the investigation
● Strengths/Limitations check -for:
○ instruments/devices/apparatus/materials required are
mentioned
○ Logical Steps clearly - in chronological order/simple to
understand
○ Safety measure
○ Precautions to reduce errors - human errors or instrument error,
etc
v. explain improvements or extensions to the method that would benefit the
scientific investigation.
● Improvement - provide specific pointers on how to improve on the
limitations in the method.
● Extension - how can be a new investigation performed using the same
setup (swap IV with one of the CV)
