Gondia Railway Station

The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme has been launched for development of Railway stations
on Indian Railways. The scheme envisages development of stations on a continuous basis with
a long-term approach.

It involves preparation of Master Plans and their implementation in phases to improve


the amenities at the stations like improvement of station access, circulating areas, waiting halls,
toilets, lift/escalators as necessary, cleanliness, free Wi-Fi, kiosks for local products through
schemes like ‘One Station One Product’, better passenger information systems, Executive
lounges, nominated spaces for business meeting, landscaping, etc keeping in view the necessity
at each station. The scheme also envisages improvement of building, integrating the station
with both sides of the city, multi-modal integration, amenities for Divyangjans, sustainable and
environment friendly solutions, provision of Ballastless tracks, phasing and feasibility and
creation of city centers at the station in the long term.

Under the scheme, 1337 stations have been identified for upgradation/modernization
over Indian Railways.

History of Gondia Railway Station:

Gondia Railway Station is one of the main railway stations of South East Central Zone
Railways in India. The construction of this railway station was started in 1878, and the Nagpur-
Tumsar line was inaugurated in 1880. This railway station was opened for the general public
in December 1988. Currently, the station is classified as NSG-3. The station has seven
platforms and average daily footfall of passengers is 25141.

Nestled in the heart of Maharashtra, Gondia Railway Station stands as a vital hub in the

● High Mast Lights: Illuminating the station area with two high mast lights, ensuring

● Lifts: Installing 4 lifts and 4 escalators strategically across the station complex to
provide convenient vertical access for passengers, enhancing inclusivity and ease of
navigation.

● Entrance Porch: Constructing a porch by blending traditional architectural motifs with


contemporary design elements to create an inviting and iconic entrance.

● Modular Toilet: Implementing modern toilet facilities emphasising cleanliness,


hygiene, and user comfort.

● Foot over Bridge: Constructing a spacious foot over bridge, 12 metres wide, to provide
safe and convenient pedestrian access across the station premises.

● CCTV Surveillance: Installing 6 CCTV cameras strategically to bolster security


measures and ensure the safety of passengers and station personnel round-the-clock.
Current Status of Work:

The work is progressing steadily with a tentative completion during 2025. Soon, Gondia
Railway Station will emerge as a shining beacon of modernity and efficiency, setting new
standards in railway infrastructure and customer amenities.
