CE329- Reinforced Concrete Design 2 (Spring 2024)

COMPLEX ENGINEERING PROBLEM

Time: Four weeks

ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF SUPER-STRUCTURE FOR A RESIDENTIAL

BUILDING
Analysis and design of superstructure for a given residential building are required. The building for yours
group is given in Table 1 below. The design is to include building frame structure, produce steel detailing
and drawings of the building. This term project is a complex engineering problem which is used to
measure students’ performance for CLO 3 of the course that also leads to PLO 3 at the program level.

Following are required:

1. Problem Statement: Defining the requirements for a given residential building and its
structural design.
2. Preliminary Design: Basic architectural requirements, structural arrangement and basic
preliminary geometry
3. Structural Analysis: Definition of loads and defining of the structural model into any FEM
analysis software.
4. Reinforced Concrete Component Design: Detailed design of basic components and
optimization of design based on materials and construction method
5. Reinforcement Detailing: Detailing of reinforcement and development of basic drawings that
may be used for development of complete construction drawings
6. Structural Drawings: Development of basic drawings that may be used for development of
complete construction drawings.

Final Report Format:

Title page, Abstract (1 page), Introduction (1 to 3 pages), Main text (section and subsections),
Conclusion (including Final Design), Tables, figures and References.
