GUJARAT
INTRODUCTION:
1. Geography and Climate
• Gujarat is bordered by the Arabian Sea to the west, Rajasthan to the north, Madhya
Pradesh to the east, and Maharashtra to the south. It also shares a border with the Sindh
province of Pakistan.
• The state has a diverse topography, ranging from the dry, salty expanses of the “Rann of
Kutch” to the lush, green hills of the “Dang forests”.
• The climate is predominantly arid to semi-arid, with hot summers, mild winters, and
monsoons bringing rain mostly between June and September.
2. Cultural Heritage
• Gujarat has a deep cultural history that spans thousands of years, dating back to the
Indus Valley Civilization with sites like Lothal being key archaeological discoveries.

TOURISTS ARRIVAL IN THE YEAR 2023-2024:
It is a popular tourist destination in the country, and was visited by 19.5 million domestic
tourists (9th Rank in India); and 210 thousand international tourists (11th Rank in India) in
2020
Gandhinagar: With 18.59 crore tourists, Gujarat witnessed a jump of 24% in number of
tourists visiting the state in 2023-24, the state govt said on Thursday. In the previous financial
year, 2022-23, 14.98 crore tourists had visited Gujarat.
Of the total tourists who visited the state in 2023-24, 17.50 crore were domestic, while 23.43
lakh were foreign tourists. (TIMES OF INDIA – 26/09/2024) with the title state witnesess
24% jump in tourists in 23-24.
MARKETING STRATEGIES:
The Gujarat government has employed several marketing strategies to promote tourism,
focusing on showcasing the state's rich cultural heritage, historical sites, natural landscapes,
and vibrant festivals. Here are some key marketing strategies used:
1. Celebrity Endorsement:
• Brand Ambassador Campaigns: Gujarat's most iconic marketing campaign featured
Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan as the state's tourism brand ambassador. His
campaign, “Khushboo Gujarat Ki”, became a massive success, generating widespread
national and international interest. His endorsement added credibility and emotional
appeal to the state's image.
2. Use of Digital Platforms:
• Social Media Campaigns: Gujarat Tourism has a significant presence on platforms
like Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, promoting various destinations through
visually appealing content, stories, and user-generated posts. Campaigns also
encourage engagement with tourists and potential visitors.
• Website and Mobile Apps: The Gujarat Tourism website provides comprehensive
information about tourist places, packages, festivals, and facilities. Mobile apps are
also utilized to enhance the user experience, offering travel tips and booking facilities.
3. Tourism Fairs and Exhibitions:
• Participation in National and International Tourism Fairs: Gujarat regularly
participates in travel trade fairs such as the World Travel Market in London and the
International Tourism Fair in Berlin to attract foreign tourists. They also participate in
domestic travel marts and expos to promote within India.
• Vibrant Gujarat Summit: This business and trade summit also promotes Gujarat as
a tourist destination, emphasizing the state’s infrastructure and readiness for tourism
development.
4. Thematic Campaigns:
• Focus on Niche Tourism: Gujarat promotes various niche tourism categories:
• Heritage Tourism: Highlighting sites like the Rani ki Vav, UNESCO World Heritage
Sites, and historical places like Sabarmati Ashram.
• Spiritual Tourism: Campaigns emphasize famous pilgrimage sites such as the
Somnath Temple, Dwarka, and Palitana Jain Temples.
• Eco and Adventure Tourism: The government promotes the Rann of Kutch, Gir
