ACTIVITY NO. 1

Answer each question sufficiently in 4-5 sentences.

A. What are the causes of Globalization?

- Globalization is about people, companies, and governments from different countries working

together. This happens due to better technology like the internet and airplanes, making it

easier to talk and do business with faraway places. Countries also make it simpler for goods

and services to move between them by reducing trade barriers. Foreign businesses can now

easily operate in other countries. Money can flow freely across countries for investments, and

the internet and media help cultures understand each other better. Governments also play a

role by making policies that encourage countries to work together. All these things together

make the world more connected and dependent on each other.

B. What are the effects of Globalization?

- Globalization has its good and bad effects. On the good side, it helps economies grow by

creating jobs and allowing trade between countries. It lets us buy things from all over the

world, like smartphones and unique foods. It also lets us learn about other cultures and

traditions. Through the internet, people can share information and make progress together.

But there are problems too. Some people and countries benefit more, creating a gap between

rich and poor. Unique cultures might disappear since everyone starts to be the same. Moving

goods around a lot can harm the environment, causing pollution and using up resources. We

might rely too much on other countries for things we need, and some jobs could move to

places where labor is cheaper, leaving people without work. So, while globalization brings

good things, it also brings challenges like inequality, cultural loss, environmental issues,

dependency, and job problems.

C. What are the effects of Globalization on Communication?

- Globalization changed how we talk to each other. Now, we can talk to anyone instantly using

the internet and smartphones. We learn about different cultures through social media and

movies, making the world feel smaller. Companies can talk to customers worldwide, helping

them grow and offer things internationally. English is now a global language due to

globalization, and many people learn it to talk to others worldwide. We can know what's

happening anywhere in the world, creating awareness about global issues. But sometimes,

misunderstandings can occur for cultural differences and language barriers, so it's crucial to

be respectful and understanding when talking globally.

Assessment:

Make a reaction paper about the video entitled “Connected but Alone, by Sherry Turkle.”

After watching Turkle's video, I thought a lot about how I use technology. She talked about how

important it is to spend time alone and we often forget to do that. Turkle also said that texting and social

media don't capture our emotions in reality. This made me realize that I need to have deeper

conversations and not just rely on messages in social media.

Her idea of balancing our online and offline lives made sense to me. Turkle's message made me want to

be better at talking to people in person, really listening, and understanding them. I felt inspired to make

my connections with others more meaningful.

In short, Turkle's video made me think about how I use technology and the quality of my relationships. I

want to spend more time alone, have deeper conversations, and balance my digital life. Her words made

me realize the importance of real connections, and I'm determined to have more of them in my life.
