Service Maintenance, concept
Why.. What.. How..
Why we need service excellent. What we do during maintenance. How we can do it.
− To ensure equipment in “operational” − Inspection, Fix it before it break − Plan, make schedule to inspection
condition − Preventive, Replace it before it fail − Comprehensive, test procedure must be
− To ensure patient safety − Correction, Repair it to make its function comprehensive and detail
− Security budget back to normal − Test Equipment, using tools properly
− Increase productivity (downtime ,etc) − Reports, test result in documentation
− Analysis and decision

Battery
- The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation
(AAMI) rates battery management as one of the top ten
challenges for hospital’s biomedical departments. A US Food &
Drug Administration (FDA) survey says that up to 50% of service
calls in hospitals relate to battery issues.
- A reduction in the capacity of batteries due to ageing and
utilization is normal. As a greatly simplified approximation, an
average linear reduction in capacity can be assumed. The current
individual capacity of a battery depends on the following factors,
among others:
-Age
-Utilization (frequency, duration and power consumption)
-Battery charge
-Ambient temperature

News battery concept
With our integrated battery check you will be able
to determine the actual current operating time. All
data is displayed in a practical overview in the
battery check dialog screen. Additionally, you have
the possibility to configure your screen with a
specified parameter box where the current
operating time is displayed in percent of capacity
and in minutes

Battery Maintenance
❑ Always fully charge the batteries.
❑ Connect the device to the mains power supply at the latest after 5 days to charge the batteries. Observe the required
charging time.
❑ Perform regularly the battery check.
❑ Replace batteries prior to the mandatory exchange intervals if necessary.

Device Check
▪ The device check is performed semi automatically
by babylog VN500 in dialog
with the operator
It must be carried out:
▪ Every time before using Babylog VN500 on
a patient
The test steps alongside are carried out during the
device check

Auxiliary Alarm
-The function of the piezo alarm is checked by way of the
"GC Test" signal to the piezo circuit. A short pulse from the
Gold Cap controls the piezo buzzer

O2 Supply
❑ M1_3 delivers 100% O2 at a flow of 40 L/min.
❑ The inspiratory flow measured value is checked for 40 L/min + 12%.
❑ The O2 measured value of the O2 sensor (Pato) is checked for a concentration of >94% O2.

Air Supply
❑ M1_3 delivers 21% O2 at a flow of 40 L/min.
❑ The inspiratory flow measured value is checked for 40 L/min + 12%.
❑ The O2 measured value of the O2 sensor (Pato) is checked for a concentration of <23%.

Pressure sensor calibration valve
✓ A pressure of 50 mbar (tolerance 50-40 mbar) is built
up in the respiratory system.
✓ When the pressure has been reached, V6 and V8 are
opened in sequence against ambient pressure.
✓ Ambient pressure is connected to pressure sensors S6
and S9.
✓ Pressure sensors S6 and S9 are balanced to ambient
pressure
© Drägerwerk AG & Co. KGaA, 2019 33
Expiratory valve
➢ The expiratory valve is actuated (closed) with 50 mbar pressure.
➢ M1_3 delivers a flow of 40 L/min.
➢ After 5 seconds a check is made whether a pressure of at least 40 mbar
has been reached. At a pressure of <40 mbar the test is aborted, as
there is probably leakage in the system or from the expiratory valve.
➢ The flow from M1_3 is reduced to 4 L/min.
➢ Wait 5 seconds: If the pressure has risen to >60 mbar, the test is
aborted, as there is probably a blockage of the expiratory valve.
➢ The inspiratory and expiratory flows (4 L/min) are compared: The
expiratory flow must not be less than 80% of the inspiratory flow. If that
value is not attained the test is aborted.
➢ The expiratory valve is opened and the pressure (reduction to ambient
pressure) must fall to less than 5 mbar within 1 second.

Safety valve / Inspiration Valve
• The expiratory valve is actuated (closed) with 30 mbar
pressure.
• GDM delivers a flow of 6 L/min.
• After 5 seconds, a check confirms whether a pressure of
at least 20 mbar has been reached. At a pressure of <20
mbar the test is aborted, as there is probably a leakage in
the system or at the expiratory valve.
• The flow from GDM is reduced to 6 L/min.
• Wait 5 seconds: If the pressure has risen to >40 mbar, the
test is aborted, as there is probably a blockage of the
expiratory valve.
• The safety valve is opened via the lift magnet M15_2
(diaphragm lifts from crater) and vented.
© Drägerwerk AG & Co. KGaA, 2019 35
O2 sensor calibration
• The O2 sensor is flushed with 100% O2.
• The O2 sensor is calibrated with 100% O2. (This lasts
approx. 1 min.)
© Drägerwerk AG & Co. KGaA, 2019 36
Nebulizer
• V15 is open (switches PATO measurement to
nebulizer/ejector branch).
• V10 switches to AIR
• With AIR pipeline supply: The O2 sensor (Pato) measures
for < 28% O2.
• With AIR pipeline supply: S2 measures the pressure of PR1
(0.8-2.5 bar).
• If no O2 pipeline supply pressure is present: V9 is opened
and the pressure at S2 must fall by at least 50 mbar - V9
has switched.
• V10 switches to O2.
• If no O2 pipeline supply pressure is present: Test complete.
• With O2 pipeline supply: The O2 sensor (Pato) measures for
> 80% O2.
• With O2 pipeline supply: S2 measures the pressure of PR2
(0.8-2.5 bar).
• With O2 pipeline supply: V9 is opened and the pressure at
S2 must fall by at least 50 mbar - V9 has switched
