In this Section, there are 3 case study/passage based questions. Each question is
of 4 marks.
36. Amit is planning to buy a house and the layout is given below. The design and the
measurement has been made such that areas of two bedrooms and kitchen together
is 95 sq.m.

(a) Form the pair of linear equations in two variables with respect to length and area of 1
two bedrooms and kitchen given in the text.
(b) Find the length of the outer boundary of the layout. 1
(c) Calculate the area of Bedroom 1 and kitchen in the layout. 2
OR
Find the area of living room.
37. Vijay is trying to find the average height of a tower near his house. He is using the
properties of similar triangles. The height of Vijay’s house is 20𝑚 when Vijay’s house
casts a shadow 10𝑚 long on the ground. At the same time, the tower casts a
shadow 50𝑚 long on the ground and the house of Ajay casts 20𝑚 shadow on the
ground.

Based on the above information, answer the following questions:

(a) Find the height of the tower? 1
(b) What the height of Ajay’s house? 1
(c) When the tower cast shadow of 40𝑚, same time what will be the length of the 2
shadow of Ajay’s house?
OR
When the tower cast shadow of 40𝑚, same time what will be the length of the
shadow of Vijay’s house?
38. On a weekend Rani was playing cards with her family. Her younger brother asked her
about the cards so she explained as:

The deck has 52 cards. A pack or deck of 52 playing cards is divided into 4 suits of 13
cards each i.e. spades ♠ hearts ♥, diamonds ♦, clubs ♣.

Cards of Spades and clubs are black cards.

Cards of hearts and diamonds are red cards.

The card in each suit, are ace, king, queen, jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3 and 2.

King, Queen and Jack are face cards. So, there are 12 face cards in the deck of 52
playing cards. Her brother drew one card.

Based on the above information, answer the following questions:

(a) Find the probability of getting a king of red colour. 1
(b) Find the probability of getting a jack of hearts. 1
(c) If she remove the club cards from the deck, calculate the probability of neither a 2
heart nor a red king.
OR
Rani’s brother lost all face cards from the deck of 52 cards, What will be the
probability of non-face card of black colour?
