A REPORT ON RECONNAISANCE AND GROUND STATUS OF

PROPOSED EXPLORATION SITE AT NDIJOKO

AND ITS ENVIRONS, NDIEZE-ECHI IZZI LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA,

EBONYI STATE .

LOCATION AND ACCESSIBILITY OF THE AREA: The area is located about

48.82km NE of Ameri mining site. It can be accessed either through IBOKO by

Mkpuma Ekwoku road which is in its deplorable condition and can only be

reached with 4WD vehicles or via ABAKALIKI –NWOFE –AMACHARA road

which is in a fair condition compare to the area stated above.

NAME OF SITE OWNERS: The site which contained two inactive/abandoned mine

pit for about 12 years ago is owned by NDIJOKO VILLAGE.

PIT GEOLOGY: The lithologic unit of the dormant PIT-1and 2 of Ope Azufu

Amegu comprises of shale, mudstone, lenses of siltstone and sandstone. The host

rock of lead –zinc ore is black shale of Asu river group. Other gangue mineral

includes massive siderite, quartzite, chalcopyrite and pyrite.

PIT ACTIVITIES: The two mining pit was dormant and have been abadoned for 12

years ago due to some disagreement between the owner of the pit and the villagers.

The pit were productive as traces of waste rock and low grade ore were seen

around the pits.

PIT DIMENSION: Pit 1 dimension is about 60m length, 20m width and 10-15m

depth. Pit 2 is about 40m length, 25m width and about 20m depth. The vein

dimension was not ascertained as the pits were all flooded and the ore vein were

not traced. The general trend of the pit is NW – SE with elevation of 40m - 42m.
OTHER INFORMATIONS: the area is owned by Ndijoko Village. The land is

relatively low land areas with scattered vegetation and wet swampland. There are

massive yam and cassava farm land on the upland areas while the low land

(swampland) contained rice cultivated farm land. The people received us very well

and promised to work with the company and willing to lease their land for the

company to work with in the village. According to the villagers, it was noted that

the abandoned pit were productive but the owner left because of inability to keep

to their agreement, and since then they were looking for any company with

integrity to lease the area. The settlement pattern is scattered settlement and linear

settlement around ELI-OPE market about 1.5km from the village.

SAMPLE COLLECTION: Two samples were collected in both pit 1 and 2 and

labelled properly at OPE-AZUFU abandoned mining pit. There was no

sample collection and pictorial envidence at ELI –OPE PIT 1 as it falls

within a different community entirely


RECOMMENDATIONS

The following were recommendations for the smooth run and success

exploration work in the area.

1. That a strong and reliable 4WD vehicle to be used

2. At least two strong motor cycles to be provided to the team geologist to

aid easy movement.

3. That if possible, a good accommodation should be secured for the

exploration team to avoid time wasting driving daily from Ameri site to

the exploration area.

4. That more awareness and sensitization to be done in every village within

the exploration area.

5. Before core drilling accessories resumes fully, there is need to use

manpower to dress some of the roads with the help of the youth leader for

easy transit to and fro the exploration site.
