Statement of the Problem
One of the most popular beaches in the Calbayog City area is located about 20 kilometers
north and west of the city in Barangay Malajog. The beach is also referred to locally as Lo-oc
Beach. A popular spot for individuals who appreciate the sand and sun is Malajog Beach.
Malajog has fine, volcanic-derived greyish sand, brilliant blue waters, towering rock formations,
and an abundance of swaying palm trees. Malajog Beach is an excellent option if you require a
location for a birthday celebration or family reunion.
Malajog Beach offers daily rental accommodations such as cottages, and huts, covered
picnic tables, and privately owned facilities for those large parties. Shaded areas for relaxation.
Caretaker provided refreshments sold on site. The main activities of Malajog are swimming,
snorkeling, picnicking, and relaxing with friends and family. Explore the shoreline rock
formations and small caves. If you linger a bit longer, you might get to see a stunning sunset.
Alongside these inviting features of Malajog beach there are several issues/problems that
has been overlook. in the current situation of Malajog beach, it does not have a centralized
parking area. The location of the facilities is scattered because it is divided among different
owners. Its toilets are only made of light materials like tarp materials and some toilets are not
comfortable to use. Some of their cottages and huts are dilapidated due to the typhoon. When it
comes to waste management, they don't manage it very well. They don't provide garbage cans in
every cottage or you rarely find a place to dump garbage. Sometimes you just see trash piled up
on the side that distorts the view of the beach. The road leading to the beach is not paved and
when it rains heavily, water splashes and piles up because there is no drainage provided. Malajog
beach does not have a main entrance for the safety of those who visits because there are many
accesses to its various corners.
Hence, these underlying issues influenced to propose a redevelopment of the Malajog
beach in Barangay Malajog, and this redevelopment is set to elevate services, facilities and other
amenities of the existing beach resort.
Furthermore, converting it into a triple a or first-class beach resort as well as to
incorporate Balinese Architecture on the overall design of the project are taken into
consideration.

After identifying the design problem and assessing the site and its surroundings,
sustainability and experiential design approach were applied to address the design problem.
Sustainability design approach mainly focuses on reducing the negative impacts on the
environment and health and comfort of the building occupants thereby improving building
performance. Locally sourced indigenous materials like bamboo, amakan, nipa, rattan, hard
wood and etc. were used as the primary building materials to fully achieve the sustainability goal
of the project. Additionally, passive cooling techniques shall be applied by providing large
openings, open spaces for interior and high ceilings to take full advantage of the natural air flow
and ventilation for the facilities to reduce electrical power consumption without compromising
the user condition and experience.
For Experiential design strategy, this will be used to address the design problem alongside
sustainability approach given that the guests experience is the top most priority of this project.
The principal goal of experiential approach is to create a design that is immersive and
incorporate every impression that a visitor will have on the building. Facilities like guest houses,
suites, and villa is designed in a way that it projects a homey feeling despite being away from
home. The building forms are fashioned in a way to give off that remarkable feeling because of
its unworldly yet astounding form.
