SESSION - 1

1.Define Stress :
Stress refers to a “physical, mental, or emotional strain or tension” reaction
to any perceived demands or threats. These demands or threats are called
stressors. Stressors are the reason for stress.
2. Meaning and Importance of Stress Management :
Stress Management refers to focusing human efforts on maintaining a
healthy body and mind capable of better withstanding stressful situations.
Well-managed stress can help one, to view events and situations as
challenges and contributes to the growth of the individual.
3. What is the ABC of stress management, and how can it help
individuals cope with stress?
A: Adversity or the stressful event
B: Beliefs or the way you respond to the event
C: Consequences or actions and outcomes of the event
4. What are the three steps of stress management?
Step 1: Be aware that you are stressed
Step 2: Identity what is causing your stress
Step 3: Apply stress management methods
5. Stress Causal Agents
1) Mental: Students can be left overwhelmed if they are unable to handle
their assignment submission deadlines and examination grades.
2) Physical: As children grow up, they may become critically conscious of
their looks. Issues related to general well-being and health of an individual
can lead to low self-esteem and cause stress.
3) Social : Discord amongst family members, peer pressure for doing things
which children would generally avoid , maintaining balance in relationships
amongst friends, status show off may lead to stress at times.
4) Financial: Youngsters may have aspirational financial stress. This may be
of becoming financially independent.
6. Importance of Stress :
Stress management is vital because it leads to following benefits:
1. Improves mood
2. Boosts immune system
3. Promotes longevity
4. Leads to burst of physical strength, which is vital for reaching goal.
5. Complete mental and physical engagement for task accomplishment.
6. Increases efficiency and effectiveness.
7. Prevents psychological disorders and behavioral problems.
7.Symptoms of Stress :
Physical signs which may suggest stress are: breathlessness, dry mouth,
butterflies in the stomach, indigestion, nausea, acidity, fatigue, sweaty
palms, cold hands, and feet, irritation hyperactivity, etc.
8.At the mental level following symptoms may reflect stress:
May reflect stress:
irritation, impatience, loneliness, upset mood, anxiety, depression,
frustration, boredom, guilt, insecurity, and forgetfulness.
9.Stress Management Techniques :
Following activities aid in stress management :
1) Physical Exercise: Physical exercise in the form of walking, skipping, or
for that matter indulging in any sports has been found to relieve stress as
they stabilize mood, improves self-esteem, and induces sleep.
2) Yoga: Yoga is a school of Hindu philosophy that reduces stress. Yoga
includes a series of postures and breathing exercises practiced to achieve
control of the body and mind.
3) Enjoying: Recreational activities like watching movies, attending
concerts, playing games, singing, dancing, or even sketching can help
individuals transcend to a happier mental state and help manage stress.
4) Meditation : It is a practice where an individual is supposed to focus
his/her mind on a particular object,
thought or activity to achieve a calm mental state reducing stress.
5) Going On Vacations with Family and Friends:
Vacations can be taken up to friends and relatives’ place as well as to far
flung attractive locations. Vacationing helps in de-stressing individuals.
10.Importance of The Ability to Work Independently :
Everyone on this earth should learn the art of working independently. This
typically means that one must learn to take ownership of the task assigned
and leave no stone unturned in accomplishing the task. Following are the
benefits of working independently.
1. Becoming self-aware, self-monitoring, and self-correcting.
2. Ensures greater learning.
3. Individuals feel more empowered and responsible.
4. Failure and success of the task assigned are accounted for by
individuals.
5. It ensures creativity and satisfaction amongst individuals.
11.Enhancing Ability to Work Independently :
The ability to work independently can be enhanced by being self-aware,
self-motivated, and self-regulated
1) Self-Awareness : Having conscious knowledge of your own self,
capabilities, feelings, and one’s own character is called self-awareness.
2) Self-motivated : Self-motivated individuals have an inner urge to do
something, and achieve their goals without any external pressure
3) Self-regulated : Self–regulation inculcates discipline that helps in
consistent efforts to move towards goal.
12. Define Emotional Intelligence :
Emotional intelligence is the ability to identify and manage one’s own
emotions, as well as the emotions of others.

Session 2: Self-awareness — Strength and Weakness Analysis

1. What do you mean by Self- awareness?


Self-awareness means that you can identify your strengths and
weaknesses.
Self-awareness means knowing your inner skills, hidden talent, strengths
and weaknesses.

2. What are some effective techniques for identifying your


strengths and weaknesses?
Finding Strengths (or abilities)
• Think of anything that you are always successful at.

• Think about what others like in you.

• Take out time and think about what you do well.


Finding Weaknesses
• Point out the areas where you struggle and the things you find difficult
to do.
• Look at the feedback others usually give you.
• Be open to feedback and accept your weaknesses without feeling low
about it. Take it as an area of improvement.
3. Difference between Interests and Abilities (Strengths)
Interests
1. Things that you like to do in your free time that make you happy. An
acquired or natural capacity.
2. Things you are curious about or would do even if no one asked you
to do it.
3. Things you want to learn or would like to do in the future
Ability
1. An acquired or natural capacity
2. Enable you to perform a particular job or task with considerable
proficiency.
Session 3: Self-motivation
1. Define Self - Motivation
Self-motivation is simply the force within you that drives you to do things.
Self-motivation is what pushes us to achieve our goals, feel happy and
improve our quality of life.

2. What are the qualities of Self-motivated People?


1. Know what they want from life
2. Are Focused
3. Know what is important
4. Are dedicated to fulfilling their dreams
3. Write about types of Motivation
Internal Motivation: LOVE We do things because they make us happy,
healthy, and feel good.
External Motivation: REWARD We do things because they give us
respect, recognition, and appreciation.
4. What are some common qualities or traits exhibited by self-
motivated individuals?
1. Know what they want from life.
2. Are focussed
3. Know what is important
4. Are dedicated to fulfilling their dreams
5.What are some effective strategies or techniques for building
self-motivation?
1. Find out your strengths
2. Set and focus on your goals
3. Develop a plan
4. To achieve your goals
5. Stay loyal to your goals

Session 4: Self-regulation — Goal Setting


1.Define Goals: They are a set of dreams with a deadline to get them, for
example, saving pocket money to buy a favorite mobile phone by a
particular date.

2. What do you mean by goal setting: It is all about finding and listing
your goals and then planning on how to achieve them.
3.How to Set Goals?
We can use the SMART method to set goals. SMART stands for:
Specific: A specific and clear goal answers six questions. Who is involved in
the goal? What do I want to do? Where do I start? When do I start and finish?
Which means do I use? Why am I doing this?

Measureable: A measurable goal answers the questions “How much?”,


“How many?” and “How do I know that I have achieved results?”

Achievable: Breaking down big goals into smaller parts will make the goal
achievable. Bigger Goal: “I want to become a teacher in my school.”

Realistic: A realistic goal would be something that we want to achieve and


can work towards.

Time bound : A SMART goal should have a timeframe by which the goal
needs to be achieved.
This encourages us to take action to completely fulfill the goals.

Session 5: Self-regulation — Time Management

1. What is time management and why is it important for personnel


to success in life?
Time management is the ability to plan and control how you spend the
hours of your day well and do all that you want to do.
Time management is the thinking skill that helps you to
• complete tasks on time.
• make a daily timetable.
• make a good guess at how long it will take you to do something.
• submit homework and assignments on time.
• not waste time during the day.
2. What are the four steps for effective time management?
i.Organise: We plan our day-to-day activities.
ii. Pritortis: We make a to-do list that has all our activities and we rank
them in order of importance.
iii. Control: We have control over our activities and time.
iv. Track: We identify and note where we have spent our time.
