Define photosynthesis.

Photosynthesis uses the energy of

sunlight to convert water and carbon
dioxide into high energy sugars.
Autotrophs produce their
own food and are also
called producers.
Heterotrophs must consume food and
are also called consumers.
Chloroplasts are the organelles in plants
where photosynthesis takes place.
Label these chloroplast structures.
1. Stroma
2. Thylakoid disc
3. Granum
Identify the leaf layer where
chloroplasts are concentrated.
Mesophyll
Write the word equation for photosynthesis.
Carbon Dioxide + Water sugars + Oxygen
Pores on the underside of the leaf are
called stomata.
The primary “food” produced by
photosynthesis is a 6-carbon sugar
called glucose.
What do plants use glucose for?
Some is used for cellular respiration and
some is converted into other organic
compounds which are stored.
Where do plants store excess
glucose?
in there roots, leaves, fruits,
stems
Veins carry water and sugarto various
parts of a plant.
Complete the chemical equation for
photosynthesis.

CO2
C6 H12 06_
Explain this diagram.
It is the cycle of the molecules as they go
throught the process of photosynthesis and
cellular respiration.
Visible light energy is absorbed
by _chlorophyl molecules.
The GREEN pigment in
plants is called _Chlorophyll.
_photosynthesis first converts light
energy into ATP & NADPH. Then, ATP &
NADPH are used to make glucose_.
An ATP molecule contains _active
energy that is released when a
_phosphate group is pulled away.
NADPH is a high energy electron
carriar that is used to help turn
CO2 into glucose.
Name the two stages of
photosynthesis.

• light reactions

• Calvin cycle
The stage of photosynthesis that
actually produces sugar is
_Calvin cycle.
Where do the light dependent reactions
occur?
In the Thylakoid membrane

Where do the light independent

reactions (Calvin Cycle) occur?
in the stroma
List the products of the light dependent
reactions.

_ATP_
_NADPH_

_O2_
The light independent
reaction (Calvin Cycle)
does not require _Light,
but it does require the
_productsof the light
dependent reactions.
List the inputs & outputs
of the light independent
reaction (Calvin Cycle).

Inputs:
• _CO2
• _ATP
• _NADPH
Outputs:
• _C6H12O6
Photosynthesis is the ultimate
source of the _air we breathe
and the _Nutrients we eat.
Complete these statements about
the carbon cycle:

• Photosynthesis converts
inorganic CO2 into _Organic
compounds.
• Cellular respiration uses organic
compounds and releases
_CO2into the atmosphere.
