Opinions are divided on whether zoos are rude or zoo are useful to
protect endangered species. While I understand why some support the
former view, I am still in favor of the latter.
On the one hand, it understandable why people think that rare animals
which is kept in zoos are can not be safe. Animals are kept in limited
living space in cages and they could not have the freedom like they do in
their natural habitats. As a result, their instinct may be seriously affected
as they could lose their hunting and survival [Link], many zoos
treat them like a way to collect money, most of the species are treated
badly to be sick or dead. For example, some animal circuses physically
abuse them.
On the other hand, i firmly hold the view that zoos have ability to
conserve endangered animals. Zoo are keep rare species from poachers.
Illegal hunters tend to favor rare species that have fur or horn are
supposed that can cure incurable diseases over commonly species such as
Rhinoceros, Bear, Elephants, for highly sell price. Furthermore, some
zoos run breeding programs in order to try and increase the numbers of
some endangered species. For instance, the San Diego Zoo in the United
States. This zoo is renowned for its conservation efforts and research on
endangered species such as the red panda, Sumatran rhinoceros, and
Malayan tiger. Their efforts extend beyond care and breeding to scientific
research aimed at enhancing the conservation of these species in the wild.
In conclusion, although zoos are harmful to rare species is advantageous
to some extent, it seems to me that it is better to believe that zoos are the
safe home to rare animals.
