Concrete Pressure Pipe (CPP) is an
engineered product that has been
manufactured and used throughout
North America for decades. It combines
the best properties of steel and concrete
into a robust pipe capable of withstanding
extremely high internal and external loads.
It is also inherently corrosion resistant
and can be used in virtually any ground
conditions found throughout North
America, as well as in subaqueous and
open-air applications.
Unlike other pipe types, CPP fittings are
100% customizable and can be made to suit
nearly any configuration required to achieve
desired alignments and connections for
water and wastewater pipelines.

BURNHAMTHORPE
The Burnhamthorpe Water Project
required over 12km of water and
wastewater infrastructure to be built in
the Heart of Mississauga. Being such
a densely populated area with a large
shopping mall, college, performing arts
centre, high-rise condominiums, a major
transit hub, city hall and heavy traffic
volume, a mix of trenchless and open cut
construction methods were required.

PRODUCT SCOPE:
DECAST supplied 3.7km of 1500mm
PCCP installed in a tunnel with an
internal operating pressure of 152psi
(1047kPa), and a total pressure of
243psi (1675kPa) under surge
conditions.
2km of 600mm and 900mm PCCP
was installed via open cut and trenchless
methods, with an operating pressure of
122psi (841kPa) and a total combined
working and surge pressure of 218psi
(1503kPa). There were also various
chambers with large and complex
fittings to accommodate multiple
connections.
YORK DURHAM
SEWAGE
SYSTEM (YDSS)
This new portion of the York-Durham
Sewage System was constructed to
accommodate future growth in the
Newmarket area and improve system
reliability. This project completed the
twinning of the forcemain that runs
between the Newmarket, Aurora and
Bogart Creek Sewage Pumping Stations.
The longest single tunneled section of
pipe on this project was over 1.1km.

PRODUCT TYPE:
AWWA C301 ECP
PRODUCT SCOPE:
DECAST supplied over 5km of 1050mm
diameter PCCP, which was installed as
the carrier pipe within a tunneled casing
pipe for this project. These pipes were
designed to withstand internal operating
pressures up to 174psi (1200kPa).
Pipe spacers were utilized to install the
CPP and keep the pipes centred in the
tunnel until the annular space could be
filled with grout.
ASHBRIDGES
BAY
The Ashbridges Bay Water Treatment
Plant (ABWTP) is the City of Toronto’s
main water treatment facility, which is
located at the South end of Leslie St on
the shores of Lake Ontario.
This project required a twinning of the
plant water intake piping as part of a new
effluent disinfection system, which ran
from the plant water pumping station to
the effluent channel.

AWWA C301 LCP
PRODUCT SCOPE:
DECAST supplied 230m of 1500mm
diameter PCCP for this project. While
the pressures were very low – 15psi
(103kPa) operating and 25psi (172kPa)
test – the depth of cover was almost
9m. The inherent pipe strength,
watertightness, durability and reliability
of PCCP made this the perfect pipe
material to suit the application.
MAYFIELD
With the expansion of city limits and
new housing developments being
built to accommodate the ongoing
population growth in the province,
new, resilient infrastructure is required.
Caledon is growing rapidly and was in
need of new sanitary lines of various
diameters. In order to ensure a long
lifespan and that the entire line is
watertight to prevent not only leaks but
inflow and infiltration (I/I) as well, CPP
was selected for these new sanitary
lines.

PRODUCT SCOPE:
DECAST supplied 600mm and 750mm
diameter PCCP pipe and 450mm BWP
(Bar-Wrapped Pipe) for this project. Due
to its rigidity, the pipe was easily able to
handle the 15.25m (50ft) of cover over
the pipe.
C300 maintenance holes were also
supplied in order to withstand the
required field hydrostatic test of 50 psi
(345kPa).
AWWA C301 PCCP – LINED
CYLINDER PIPE
Lined Cylinder Pipe, commonly referred to as LCP or C301(L), is a type of Prestressed Concrete Cylinder
Pipe (PCCP). This pipe consists of a welded steel cylinder, steel Carnegie joint rings, a centrifugally
placed concrete core, high tensile steel wire and a dense cement mortar coating over the prestressing
wire and core. An O-Ring rubber gasket is incorporated at each joint for watertightness and flexibility.

FEATURES
• Pipeline projects often require various changes in elevation and direction as well
as multiple outlets and connections. The adaptability of CPP through standard
and custom fittings (bends, tees, reducers etc.) designed and manufactured
specifically for each project gives practical solutions to these obstacles
• Mechanically restrained joints, welded joints, double gasket air-testable joints and
customized joints are available
• CPP shipments include gaskets, lubricant and diapers for field grouting of joints.
Grout is not included
• Rigid pipe that allows native soils to be used for backfill, helping contractors and
owners address the strict regulations for management of excess soils under the
latest changes to Ontario legislation (O.Reg. 406/19)

raw materials received to the finished product
• DECAST is a member of the American Concrete Pressure Pipe Association (ACPPA) and as such is
subject to annual third party audit performed by the LRQA
• The audit consists of a checklist with over 200 items and addresses raw materials, QA/QC procedures,

TAPPING
Tapping CPP is a common occurrence in today’s public works projects. Technical
expertise, materials, and installation services for taps up to 1200mm on all types of CPP
are available through DECAST – larger diameters may also be available under certain
circumstances. In most cases, the work can be done without taking the line out of service.
