RADIATOR
1.0 General
The work instruction covers painting and blasting process of transformer tank and other
accessories.
2.0 Scope
The work inspection is covering activity stated below:
1. Preparation before painting
2. Surface preparation before painting (Shot blast)
3. Under coat work
4. Curing and control finishing before next process
5. Final coating process
6. Repair paint work
7. Activity after painting – cleaning and house keeping.
8. Inspection and testing
9. The warranty period for the protection system is set at 7 years.
Repair work will be carried out for any alteration occurring during this period.
3.0 Procedure

3.3 Main Tank
1. Method of painting: Spray-painting
2. Paint defect such as orange peel, sagging, wrinkle, dirt in paint, pin hole, over spray and other defect
must be removed. Removing process is by applying sanding work to smooth the surface or, in worse
case putty may apply to the defected ares.
3. Upon compete shot blasting and tank surface cleaning; primer coating has to be applied within 4
hour time.
4. Prepare mixture of primer paint and estimate correct quantity required for painting of entire main tank
body.
5. Clean and check the spray gun nozzle before painting process starts.
6. Process shall start with spraying at the top portion follow by descending to the bottom of the tank.
Movement of the spraying shall be in horizontal position.
7. Keep the distance of the spray gun at about 2 to 3 feet from the tank surface during painting.
8. Do not over spray at any part of the tank to avoid surface wrinkling effect. Paint evenly throughout
whole surface.
9. For area that difficult to reach by spraying due to space constraint, use roller to paint as alternative.
10. Any visible bad spot or sage of paint on the fins and at the bottom of the tank is to be touched up bt
spraying.
11. All loose paint and paint damage area to be removed and apply abrasive tool to make surface rough.
4.0 Inspection and Testing
4.1. Physical Inspection
4.1.1. The paint color shall be checked and must be same as specified.
4.1.2 The paint must be free from defects at all area. Inspection is carried out after the paint is dry.
4.1.3 Tape test is carried out after 8 Hr. when paint is completely dry.
4.1.4 Test criteria: Free from defect such as Blistering, Chalking, Checking, Cracking, dirt in paint,
etching, Orange peel, Peeling, Pin holing, Pitting or popping, Runs and Sags, Shrinkage
and splitting and Wrinkling.
