Q1. Consider a random sanple X1, X2, ,Xn of size from a population with the density
f(u) =e(u-9), z>0.
Prove or disprove that maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) for the parameter 8 is
unbiased. [15]
Q2. A person buys 10 lottery tickets with each having a winning probability 0.26. If he
wins a prize in at least one of the tickets, he gets addicted and will keep on buying
tickets til he wins again. Find thc (xpccted number of unsuccessful attempts. [15]
Q3. Consider following joint density of two random variables X and Y,

fxv(a.v) = (u-,
0,
0<y < 0,
otherwise.

Find the marginal density of X and the conditional density of Ygiven X. [15]
Q4. Given that n = 10, C Z = 592.6, C = 1428.7, 1 3 = 41222.14,
S = 220360.5, i; = 91866.46. Obtain yja at n = 2. Test the hy
pothesis whether the slope of regression line is zero at 5% level of significance. (15]
Q5. Acricketer wins a toss with a probability of headgiven byp. When the coin was tested,
in 10 tosses, it resulted in 6 hcads. Use Binomial distribution to calculate p-value and
test if thecoin can be considered unbiased at a 10% level of significance. If it is further
decided to perform 90 more tosses with the same coin, and out of these 90, a total of
53 observed heads, use z-value test based on this sample of size 100 to decide if the
coin can be considered unbiased at 5% level of significance. [15]
Q6. A production unit of a pharnaceutical manufactures vaccines for a particular rare
disease. The conpany produces any number of vaccine, from one to six per hour,
which is equally likely. Further, the lab tests the quality of each vaccine, and each
vaccine passes the quality test independently with a probability 0.8. Those vaccines
that do not pass the quality test will have to be discarded at the cost of Rs 10000 per
vaccine. Moreover, the vaccine that passes the quality test will be put on sale. Each
vaccine on sale has a 50% chance of being sold out before expiration. Each sold-out
vaccine generates a profit of Rs 50000 per vaccine, and unsold before expiry gives a
loss of Rs 20000 per accine. Find the net profit of the company per hour. Use the
following random mumbers exactly once in the given order: 0.75, 0.20, 0.63. [15]
