Review Motivation (Video Analysis)

Show a short, engaging video clip from a popular animated film or a well-
known advertisement. Ask students to pay attention to how the visuals make them
feel and what messages they think are being conveyed. After viewing, prompt a brief
discussion by asking:
 What caught your attention the most?
 How did the colors and images make you feel?

B. Learning Stages
1. ACTIVITY
a. Activity I: Visual Media Analysis
Materials Needed:
Various images from advertisements, movie posters, or artworks
(printed or digital)
Markers and large paper for group work
Projector (optional)
Instructions:
Group Formation: Divide students into small groups of 4-5.
Image Selection: Provide each group with a different visual media piece.
Analysis Guide: Give each group a guide with questions focusing on:

Line:
How do lines direct your gaze? Are they sharp and aggressive, or soft
and inviting?
Symbols:
What symbols can you identify? What do they represent?
Color:
What feelings do the colors evoke? Are they warm, cool, bright, or
muted?
Gaze:
Who is looking at whom? What does this suggest about the
relationship between subjects?
Framing and Social Distance:
How are the subjects framed? Are they close or far away? What does
this tell us about their relationship?
Discussion and Presentation:
After 30 minutes of discussion and analysis, each group will present
their findings to the class. Encourage them to use the visual elements
as evidence for their interpretations.

2. ANALYSIS
Activity I:
After presentations, facilitate a class discussion comparing the different
interpretations. Ask students:
 How did different groups interpret the same visual elements
differently?
 What factors influence how we understand visual media?

3. ABSTRACTION
Guide students to abstract the concepts learned. Discuss how the
elements of visual media can be tools for communication. Emphasize that
understanding these elements can help them become critical viewers of
media.

4. APPLICATION
Activity: Real-Life Problem:
Ask students to think of a product they love and create a visual advertisement for
it. They should consider how they will use line, color, symbols, gaze, framing, and
social distance to convey a specific message or emotion about the product.
