ISTA Application
1. Overview:
ISTA Diagnostic Software Introduction
- ISTA is a workshop system that contains BMW AG Data and Information.
- ISTA (which stands for Integrated Service Technical Application) consists of three parts,
- ISIS (Integrated Service Information System/Server).
- ISSS (Integrated Software Service Station) – Handles all the ISTA/P sessions for
programing/coding BMW systems.
- ISID (Integrated Service Information Display) – a PC which contains the ISTA/D
(Diagnostics) software and used to control ISTA/P to initiate and run programming
sessions. This is what our technicians carry around the workshop and perform diagnostic,
coding and programing services on your BMW.
- ICOM Unit (ICOM emulator) interfaces the BMW ISID to your BMW’s diagnostic
connection or MOST interface to allow diagnostics to run, and to send coding and
programing commands and software. The ISTA software is a vast leap in technology and
complexity over GT-1/DIS/Program with a ton of interconnecting pieces across several

E. Hunter Road Force GSP9700/ GSP9700 Series Vibration Control System
1. Introduction:
The GSP-9700 Series Vibration Control System is a wheel balancer with the added
capabilities of measuring tire/wheel Road Force, Lateral Force, and wheel runout.
The GSP-9700 simulates a “road test”, with a unique “load roller” which applies up to
1400 pounds of force against the rotating assembly. The roller measures the loaded
runout of the assembly (deflection while under load) and automatically recommends
corrections when needed. The GSP-9700 technology eliminates many of the time
consuming, subjective, and often non-productive manual measurements previously used
to diagnose and repair ride disturbance concerns.
2. Placement and Components:
➢ Image of Hunter GSP97BMW:

➢ Equipment Components: Below is the image of the Hunter Road Force Touch GSP
– 9700, it is the same structure and components with our Hunter GSP97BMW

Image 1: Structure of model Hunter Road Force Touch GSP – 9700

63
Image 2: Tools and Components of Hunter GSP97BMW.
3. Wheel Balancing Process:
First of all, we take out the car wheels. Reference:
- A. General process when lifting the car (Step 1, 2, 3, 4)
- B. Remove/ Install wheels procedure

Step 1: Install the wheel onto the

machine
- We roll the wheel onto the machine
(onto the sliding plate of the
machine).

- Lift the wheel upto the axis by

lifting the pedal of the machine.

64
- Next, we choose the suitable
centering cone and put it into the
axis and then put the plastic spacer
ring next to it.

- Finally, put the locking hub into the

axis and tap the other pedal twice to
lock the wheel into the machine.

65
66
Step 2: Prepare for the Balancing
Process
- Firstly, we need to lower the sliding
plate by pressing on the control
pedal.

- Then use the Plier to take all the

small stones or little gravels.

- Remember to inflate the wheel

using the Inflation Station. When
taking out the pumping hose, the
screen will automatically change
into Inflation Mode. You can adjust
the inflation pressure by touching on
the screen.

- After putting the pumping hose into

the pumping valve of the wheel, the
machine will inflate the wheel until
reaching the set pressure.
Remember to put the pumping hose
back to its position before doing the
next step.

- Pull out the Inner Dataset Arm and

put it in the position where the leads
are attached on and press the pedal

67
once to insert the data, repeat the
process for the other position.

68
Step 3: Balancing Process
- Before conduct the process, close
the Safety Hood to prevent damage
during the process. This is a must do
step because if the hood is not close
yet, the machine will not allow us to
do the balancing process. Then,
touch the button “Start” on the
screen to begin the process.

- Then we wait for the process to

finish. During the process, the Road
Force roll will apply a force onto the
wheel to simulate the road when we
drive. This will provide a more
accurate result.

- After the process, the screen will

display the amount of weight the
wheel need on each side. We
calculate and cut out the proper
amount of weight for that position.

69
- Next, we determine the position to
clip the weight on by touch the
screen on the side that we need the
weight and roll the wheel slowly
until the laser beam turn on and
show on the wheel.

- Finally, we clip the weight onto the

wheel at the center where the laser
beam point on, we can use the
available glue tape on the weight
and use the weight hammer to tap it
down to the rim of the wheel.

70
71
72
Step 4: Remove the wheel from the
machine.
- First, tap twice on the pedal to
release the wheel. Then take out the
locking hub, the plastic spacer, and
the centering cone.

- Then we lift up the sliding plate up

to the wheel by lift the control pedal
and pull the wheel out of the axis.

- Finally, we lower the sliding plate

by pressing on the control pedal and
roll the wheel out of the machine.

73
74
F. General inspection procedure
1. PDS (Pre-Delivery Inspection) and PDS (Pre-Delivery Service)
A Pre-Delivery Inspection, commonly known as PDI, is a systematic evaluation or a
checklist evaluation of a vehicle. Every new car will undergo PDI at least two times (it
means PDI and PDS) in its life cycle before it is handed over to the customer.
PDS is essentially the same as a Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI), but it encompasses a
broader range of checks and preparations.
• PDI:

Receive the request

Stamp the vehicle's chassis number and

engine number for registration
