Salesforce Data Cloud Integration

PL ANNING WORKBOOK
How to Use This workbook

Before determining integration methods for Salesforce Data Cloud, it’s important to evaluate the entire system landscape within your
organization and identify business needs. In turn, these can then be translated into integration requirements.

This workbook is designed to prompt you to consider the different aspects of your existing infrastructure and platforms, and identify appropriate
integration points for integrating Data Cloud into your organization.

DATA SOURCES

Using the table below, Identify the datasets available from the source platforms to be imported into Data Cloud, with the
corresponding unique identifier and required ingestion frequency.

Source Content Identifier Frequency

Marketing Cloud Email and SMS Engagement Data Subscriber Key Daily

Salesforce CRM Lead and Contact Data Lead or Contact ID Hourly

ON24 Event Registration Email Address Real-time

Facebook Ad Conversions Email Address Hourly

Clearbit Individuals name and location, employer title and role Email Address Daily

Source Content Identifier Frequency

DATA EXTRACT REQUIREMENTS

Data Cloud provides several Extract APIs to enable platform data to be retrieved from the platform for integration with
external applications and platforms. Supported APIs include:

Profile API to retrieve customer profile information: use on external web or mobile apps to look up customer profile information
Query API to support large volume data reads, external application integration, or interactive on demand querying of the data lake
Calculated Insights API to query Calculated Insights with selected SQL dimensions and measures with optional filters
Metadata API to retrieve metadata about entities, including Calculated Insights, Engagement, Profile, and other entities, as well as their
relationships to other objects. The Metadata API is commonly used in conjunction with other extract APIs to programmatically define the data
schema.

Using the following tables, identify the different use cases in your organization for extracting data to external platforms
and indicate the appropriate API to use.

Use Case API Target Platform

Retrieve profile information to display on profile page Profile API Mobile App

Retrieve computed attributes for Individual, for example membership tier (calculated Profile API Website
from points balance) or total spend

Augment existing data with harmonized data from different sources Query API Data Warehouse

Data visualization of individual profiles and segmentation Query API BI Platform

Augment existing data with customer Lifetime Value (LTV), Recency, Frequency, Calculated Insights API Data Warehouse
Monetary (RFM) scores, lead scores (e.g. from on email and web engagement)

ACTIVATION PLATFORMS

An Activation in Data Cloud is the process that publishes a segment to activation platforms.

Data Cloud supports activation to the following activation targets
Amazon S3 cloud storag
Google Ads, Meta and Amazon Ads advertising platform
Salesforce Marketing Clou
Data Cloud DMO

Using the following tables, identify data activation use cases within your organization and what attributes might be
required by the activation targets for message personalization (note: attributes are only supported by Marketing Cloud
and Amazon S3 activation targets).

Platform Use Case Personalization Attributes

Cloud Storage Integrated with on-premise call center platform to call qualified leads first name, website page views

Marketing Cloud Inject new customers into multi-step welcome journey customer number, first name, gender, location

G oogle Ads Re-marketing to an audience segment with a high likelihood to convert not applicable (refer to above note)

DATA ACTIONS

Data Actions trigger event-driven payloads when defined criteria are met, which can then be used by downstream
systems to enable data orchestration. Supported actions include
Salesforce Platform Event
Webhoo
Marketing Cloud

Using the table below, identify different use cases for Data Actions in your organization.

Platform Use Case

Marketing Cloud Inject new customers into a welcome journey after activating their account to send them a
series of onboarding drip campaign emails

Salesforce CRM (using Platform Events) Trigger a Flow that updates a Lead record to Sales Qualified and convert Leads to Contacts
based on initial purchase

Webhook Integrate with logistics and shipping platforms to create new fulfillment when order is created

Platform Use Case

Common questions

Powered by AI

Data Actions in Salesforce Data Cloud can facilitate operational efficiency by automating workflows based on event-driven triggers. For example, a Salesforce Platform Event can initiate a flow that converts leads into contacts following an initial purchase, thereby streamlining the sales process. Webhook integrations with logistics platforms can automatically create new fulfillment orders, reducing manual interventions .

Personalization attributes significantly influence campaign effectiveness by tailoring communications to individual customer needs and preferences. In Salesforce Marketing Cloud, attributes like first name, location, and website interactions enhance the relevance of multi-step welcome journeys and onboarding campaigns, increasing engagement and conversion rates by creating more meaningful customer experiences .

When selecting an integration platform for Salesforce Data Cloud, an organization should consider the compatibility of current infrastructure with platforms such as MuleSoft, Boomi, or Zapier; the requirements for API management; the nature and sources of existing data; and the specific integration needs such as real-time data processing, scalability, and support for various data formats .

Salesforce Data Cloud Activation Platforms can be leveraged for marketing automation by publishing customer segments to various activation targets such as Marketing Cloud. For example, new customers can be injected into multi-step welcome journeys, and re-marketing efforts can be tailored using Google Ads for audience segments with high conversion potential. Attributes like customer number and first name can personalize messages, enhancing engagement and conversion rates .

The Calculated Insights API is appropriate for use cases involving augmented data with customer analytics, such as calculating customer Lifetime Value (LTV), Recency, Frequency, Monetary (RFM) scores, and lead scores based on email and web engagement. These analyses can be directed to Data Warehouses for advanced data visualization and BI purposes .

The strategic benefits of using the Query API for data augmentation in a Data Warehouse include enhanced data visualization capabilities and more comprehensive customer insights by integrating harmonized data across platforms. This augmentation enables better segmentation and profiling, critical for personalized marketing strategies and business intelligence initiatives .

Extract APIs play a crucial role in the Salesforce Data Cloud integration process by enabling platform data retrieval for integration with external applications. They support various functions such as querying data lakes (Query API), retrieving customer profile information (Profile API), computing attributes (Calculated Insights API), and retrieving entity metadata (Metadata API).

Identifying appropriate data ingestion frequencies is crucial for timely and efficient data integration in Salesforce Data Cloud. It ensures that the data remains current and relevant for operational and analytical needs. For instance, lead and contact data may need to be updated hourly, while email engagement data could require daily synchronization to inform marketing strategies effectively .

The Salesforce Data Cloud Integration Planning Workbook suggests identifying data sources for integration by evaluating existing platforms where customer, prospect, and product data reside, such as databases, SaaS platforms, and storage resources. It involves assessing the entire system landscape, including infrastructure platforms like Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform, as well as integration and API management platforms such as MuleSoft and Informatica .

Infrastructure platforms, such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, and Microsoft Azure, provide the necessary backend services that support scalability, storage, and compute power required for Salesforce Data Cloud integrations. These platforms facilitate robust connectivity and data processing capabilities, enabling efficient data management and processing workflows .
