Quotation of Book Fahrenheit 451
The book “Fahrenheit 451” is the story of Montag Mildred with the
society which the books are banned. The most important point in
Fahrenheit 451 centers around the desire for knowledge and individuality
in a society that expects ignorance and conformity in the dystopian
setting. About this theme, this essay is going to explore about 3 quotation
which is used to evolve the story.
First, there is a quotation which said by Captain Beatty. “ ‘You know the
law,’ said Beatty. ‘Where’s your common sense? None of those books
agree with each other. You’ve been locked up here for years with a regular
damned Tower of Babel’ “. This quote can be said to “Beatty argues ban of
books which lead to peaceful life.” Beatty speaking to the owner of a
hidden library who lights herself on fire along with her books. Eventually,
this passage represents the argument about why book should be illegal,
and Beatty is arguing books should be banned.
Second, there is another important quotation. “ ‘I don‘t talk things, sir,’
said Faber. ‘I talk the meaning of things. I sit here and know I’m alive.“
More specifically, this quote means “The meaning that books giving to us
is most important above anything else. It is a quotation of Professor by he
speaking to Montag. This quote reflects two different meanings: the value
of meaningful engagement with knowledge but also mindless assumption.
Third, at last, “And I thought about books. And for the first time I
realized that a man was behind each one of the books.” This quote means
“The books are created by people.” Montag explaining his revelation to his
wife. This passage shows how strongly books are tied to actual people,
that they are more than words and paper. Throughout this quote,
Fahrenheit 451 is arguing about book is meaningful by the people mean to
get spread out their information thorough generation. This can refer to
idea of books pass on knowledge through generations.
In conclusion, Ray Bradbury usually uses many literary devices.
throughout Fahrenheit 451. He uses things such as metaphors, and similes
to direct the reader’s attention to important themes, characters, and
events in the book. One of the literary techniques that he uses is
figurative language. Figurative language refers to the use of words in a
way that deviates from the conventional order and meaning in order to
convey a complicated meaning. By Bradbury using it, he could make ideas
and concepts easier to visualize to the readers. Especially, genres like
science fiction and dystopia such as Fahrenheit 451 include deprivation or
oppression. This can make people get confused about the book and could
not understand the content which can cause misunderstandings. So
Bradbury may used figurative language to support them.
