“What is Ethical dilemma”
To begin with you should be wondering what is ethical dilemma. Ethical dilemma is
referring to the choice you should do between to things. In every business you can encounter
ethical dilemma when mangers have to make choices between two or more thing. To add we will
be seeing what is ethical dilemma and examples of a real-life experience. Also, the different
approaches you use to solve ethical dilemma. Finally, we will see how ethical dilemma can
affect individuals, society or organization if measures aren’t taken properly.
You might be wondering what is ethical dilemma? Well in general, an ethical dilemma is a
complex situation a person/business faces in which a decision must be made about the adequate
action to be taken. In other words, it is a situation that arises when all alternative choices or
behavior have been deemed undesirable because of potentially negative ethical consequences,
making it difficult to distinguish right from wrong. Also it can occur any time or any place you
are but mostly ethical dilemma occurs in work places. I think that it happens more in work places
because like an employee you should choice if you do the work good or not doing it correctly.
Furthermore, I think everyone has experienced ethical dilemma in almost every aspect of their
life’s. In Addition, being a manger in a business have to encounter many ethical dilemmas. For
example, let’s say I have my own business and I am the manger and I decide to do my business
small or big. I have to do ethical dilemma because I have to choose between two things doing my
business small or big. A next example can be as the manger of a business choosing wisely
between your employees. You have to choose who will do this and the next thing wisely because
you want it to be good not wrong things. I think that I will use individualism approach to solve
the problem because it is my business and I want the things to be good and I have to be
independent so my business can prosper and not banker up.
Ethical dilemma can affect individual by many ways for example, let us say that you are finding
a job, so you applied in three different companies and you are anxiously waiting for a response.
After a time you get your first offer, you accept that offer and you will start working within two
weeks. Shortly after you accept the first offer, a second one comes in. For you it’s the better of
the two offers. Since you haven’t start working you face an ethical dilemma, decline the second
offer because you have already accepted the first one or decline the second one. Living up your
word and staying with the first acceptance reflect a sense of honesty and responsibility. However
many people in this situation may take a more self-interest position and leave the first offer and
accept the second one. There’s nothing wrong to accept the second offer, as long as you advise
your first employer on why you are leaving the offer. Failing to inform the first employer is a
very selfish act. You are doing what is easiest not what is ethically appropriate. What if you
didn’t tell the first employer and just disappeared and then the second employer somehow found
out about the ghosting. They will be concerned on whether you are a trusted employee. Your
word is your bond and while our minds may change over time it is important to fully explain to
the affected parties why that has occurred.
To conclude we learned that ethical dilemma is situation in which difficult choices have to be
made between two different things or more opinions. As we could see and understand, an
approach was explained which can be used to solve or prevent ethical issues when it comes to a
business. Throughout the reading we could understand what an ethical dilemma is, how it can be
solved and what methods approach can be used in order to find a solution to these kinds of
dilemmas.
