Broad Understanding of Success

The term success acts as a significant construct in people’s everyday experiences. It is

generally defined in society as the attainment of a substantial economic status, social class, or

career success. In its general definition, success is perceived as the achievement of a goal or

desired outcome, as well as a favorable result in a social activity aimed at earning money,

obtaining a prestigious position, or gaining public appreciation. This conventional view of

success is quite popular throughout the society since it supports material gains and, therefore,

visible status. However, this is not true and this definition of success is rather shallow and thus

does not address the inner reality of success fully. Broadly, success involves self-satisfaction,

overcoming of challenges, and an opportunity to make a difference in other people’s lives, which

presents a fuller and far more enriching view.

Work satisfaction is one of the most important success factors outside compliance with

financial parameters. Thus, the conception of success implies personal goals and achievements,

in contrast to the social conceptions which depend on material accomplishments. For instance, an

individual who serves his or her whole life to an occupation, say art or teaching, he or she will

not become the next pop star or become a millionaire. However, they may do so with a deep

satisfaction and sheer joy from within visibly attending to their work. This definition of success

is calculated by how fully one feels he has actualized himself and how much he has enjoyed

what he has done. Personal satisfaction epitomizes the famous maxim ‘it’s not about the money,

as much as it is the joy the money brings.

Another component of an expanded notion of success is the ability to overcome

adversity. These measures can be tallied that success is usually measured by achieving the goals

set and by eliminating the discrepancies and problems that hinder performance. Hypotheses

Seeking victory from adversities, ability to persevere and more, resilience entails ability to

recover from losses. For example, if an individual is involved in the act of business and they

have attempted several times with no success in the past but finally succeeds, then he / she would

be regarded as having displayed resilience. Specifically, the narrative of this particular subject

can be concluded that achievement is not only the attainment of the given objective, but the

ability to stand and cope with challenges. The concept of resilience lays down the assertion that

success is not just a case of achieving a certain state but the capacity to survive while attaining it.

Furthermore, what motivates people and can also be viewed as a key aspect of success is

the possibility to change people’s lives for the better. Success can thus be defined in terms of the

effectiveness of the change planned and the ability to bring about change in the lives of people.

For instance, a community leader embracing a crusade to enhance the living standards of the

people that live in a particular area or uplift the standards of minority, low income earner, or any

stratum of the society that seems to have been left behind in the society can be deemed to be

successful even though they do not amass wealth or fame. Such type of success is, therefore,

measured in terms of the extent to which one can influence change and encourage others to

actualize their potential. The lifestyles people affect in other people’s lives and the footprints

people leave behind are some of the components that define a deeper and richer success.

In future, the idea of success may differ depending on the culture of the society and the

new ideas it will bring forth. In this context, accomplishments may be tied to technological

growth and global concerns, which ultimately leads to sustainability, innovation and well-being
of the entire world. In the future, success might be measured in terms of capability of solving

current environmental problems, imagining and bringing into existence equal opportunities for

all and enabling the world to work together. For example, people inventing a solar panel or

trying to minimize gaps in gender or race discrimination may be considered successful not only

because of their inventions but by the fact that they benefit the world. The future view of success

can indicate values that are more inclined to social welfare and responsible management, which

refer to organizational communication prosperity for the sake of humanity and the environment.

To sum up, the common definition of success has been enriched with the values of

personal satisfaction, stability, and the opportunity to transform individuals or the whole society

in a positive way. Personal fulfillment stresses the necessity of personal satisfaction and

contentment in the activities, and perseverance underlines the importance of continuing through

the tough times. Further, helping people and changing them represent higher and deeper aspects

of accomplishment that are behind a more comprehensive understanding of what success actually

entails. It means that using this broad definition helps to see success as something more profound

than achievements in career or at work environment.

The document implies that a balance between personal satisfaction and social responsibility is crucial for a comprehensive understanding of success. While personal fulfillment and joy in one's pursuits are vital, influencing positive changes in others' lives and addressing societal needs are equally important. True success is portrayed as intertwining personal achievements with contributions to the collective good, leading to a richer, more fulfilled life .

The claim 'it's not about the money, as much as it is the joy the money brings' suggests that success should be measured by the satisfaction and fulfillment derived from one's achievements rather than the financial gain alone. The document supports this perspective by emphasizing personal contentment and the joy of achieving true self-actualization over material wealth. This view challenges the conventional monetary-focused success definition by valuing personal happiness and the impact of one's work on themselves and others .

Examples from the document illustrating the redefined measure of success include community leaders working to improve living standards in specific areas and individuals creating innovations like solar panels to benefit the environment. These instances show success as being linked to elevating community welfare and addressing environmental needs, suggesting a broader perspective that values societal improvements and ecological responsibility over personal gain .

Future views on success might differ by focusing more on global concerns like technological growth, sustainability, and solving environmental problems. Success may be evaluated by contributions towards decreasing gender or race disparities and enabling equitable opportunities globally. The emphasis might shift towards social welfare, innovation, and responsible management, prioritizing the well-being of humanity and the environment over traditional markers like wealth and career achievements .

Personal satisfaction and self-fulfillment redefine success by emphasizing joy, inner satisfaction, and the actualization of one’s potential, rather than focusing solely on material achievements. Success, in this sense, involves deriving deep satisfaction and joy from one's work or life's purpose, even if it does not result in wealth or fame. This broader understanding acknowledges the value in personal achievements and the enjoyment derived from them over mere compliance with financial parameters .

Resilience plays a critical role in achieving success by highlighting the ability to persevere through adversity and overcome challenges. Success is not merely about reaching a goal but also about the capability to withstand difficulties, recover from losses, and continue striving towards objectives despite setbacks. Changing cultural norms influence the perception of success by altering the values and goals considered desirable.
