at which total cost and total revenue are equal, i.e. "even". In layman's terms, after all costs
are paid for there is neither profit nor loss.

● It is the production level at which a company's total revenue equals its total costs,
resulting in neither a profit nor a loss.
● It is an important metric for businesses to understand as it helps them determine the
minimum sales volume required to cover their costs and start generating profits.
● The break-even point can be calculated in units or in dollars.
● The formula for calculating the break-even point in units is:
○ Break-even point (units) = Fixed costs / (Selling price per unit - Variable
cost per unit)
● The formula for calculating the break-even point in dollars is:
○ Break-even point (dollars) = Fixed costs / Contribution margin
○ Contribution margin is the difference between the selling price per unit and
the variable cost per unit.

Importance of break-even analysis:

determine how many units or dollars of sales they need to generate to cover their
