CREST Olympiads is one of the largest Olympiad Exams with students from more than 25 countries.
The objective of these exams is to build competitive spirit while evaluating students on conceptual
understanding of the concepts.
We strive to provide a superior learning experience, and this workbook is designed to complement
the school studies and prepare the students for various competitive exams including the CREST
Olympiads. This workbook provides a crisp summary of the topics followed by the practice questions.
These questions encourage the students to think analytically, to be creative and to come up with
solutions of their own. There’s a previous year paper given at the end of this workbook for the
students to attempt after completing the syllabus. This paper should be attempted in 1 hour to get an
assessment of the student’s preparation for the final exam.

Numbers
A number. is a basic unit of mathematics. Numbers are used for counting, measuring, and
comparing amounts.
Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division are four basic math operations.
We will learn about addition and subtraction.
Addition:
Addition means “Putting together”.
The addition is taking two or more numbers and adding them together.
It is represented using the ‘+’ symbol.
For example, if we add 5 and 4, we get 9 as a result.
5+4=9
Suppose if you have 5 chocolates in one box and 4 more chocolates are added in the same box, so how
many chocolates are there altogether?
5 → 1+1+1+1+1
4 → 1+1+1+1
5 + 4 → 1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1
Now if we count each chocolate, then it is equal to 9.
Subtraction:
Subtraction means “Taking away”
Subtraction is the opposite of addition.
When we subtract, we take away the smaller number from the larger number.
It is represented using the ‘- ‘symbol.
Follow the dots and join the numbers from 1-30 to get the Triceratops:
Count the dots to find the numbers and colour the monkey by matching the colours with the given

number. Here we are learning to skip counting by two which is the same as adding two and writing
the number.
0+2=2
2+2=4
4+2=6
6+2=8
8 + 2 =10
