Mr. Oluwole Oyebade,
Managing Director/Group CEO,
Wottnig Group Limited,
30, Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase 1,
Lagos.
Dear Sir,
THE GUARDIAN’S SPECIAL FOCUS ON 100 VISIONARY CEOs WITH EXCEPTIONAL BUSINESS ACUMEN THAT
SHAPED NIGERIA’S ECONOMIC LANDSCAPE IN 2024
Since the change in administration in May 2023, Nigeria has pursued bold reforms such as the elimination of petrol
fiscal subsidy and unification of FX markets to a market-reflective exchange rate, aimed at re-establishing
macroeconomic conditions for stability and growth. However, in contrast, these reforms have triggered some
negative microeconomic implications including increase in poverty, social unrest and protests, rise in crime, increase
in prices of not only petroleum products but that of general goods and services, as well as loss of jobs in the business
sector.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the country’s headline inflation rate rose to 34.19% in June
2024, compared to 22.79% in June 2023, making it the 18th consecutive monthly increase since January 2023 and
the highest inflation rate in 28 years. This squeeze is further amplified by global market volatility, intensifying
competition and weakened consumer spending power.
Interestingly, amidst these challenges, opportunities for growth exist. Thus, despite thiseconomic impasse, some
proactive and result-oriented Chief Executives have demonstrated exceptional resilience, strategic vision,
commitment to excellence and their ability to navigate the complexities of today's economy is a testament to their
remarkable acumen. These business leaders have successfully adapted to the situation and adopted strategies to
make their brands survive and thrive through deep knowledge of industry insight.
Consequently, for defying the apparent biting economic downturn and by piloting the affairs of their companies to
profitability, these exceptional men and women deserve recognition for their out-of-the-box ingenuity, total quality
management practices, prudency, effective solutions in achieving set goals, as well as enviable CSR interventions that
have earned them awards within the country and beyond. Indeed, they deserve accolades in their efforts and
contributions to the stability and growth of the nation’s economy.
To this end, and in our tradition of celebrating excellence, The Guardian’s 2024 Annual CEO Series will focus on
“100 Visionary CEOs With Exceptional Business Acumen That Shaped Nigeria’s Economic Landscape In
