Position Summary:

Shift Fitter Maintenance

Instructions for Responsibilities and Accountabilities: List the major responsibilities and accountabilities of the position in order of

McCain. (i.e. what the job produces) as well as the key activities that lead to the outcomes:

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

To carry out mechanical maintenance to all areas of the factory, keeping equipment running at optimum
efficiency with minimum costs. Undertake maintenance that minimizes downtime & follow up to
prevent reoccurrence.
1. He must have hard core maintenance experience in process industry and good knowledge of
pumps, valves, bearings, conveyer belt, gear boxes, lubricant used in bearing and pump, gear
box, vacuum pumps, alignment setting, compressors & components and its maintenance,
reasons for bearing failure etc.
2. He must have knowledge of preventive maintenance, benefits of preventive maintenance and
various types of predictive maintenance methodologies

1 Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive


maintenance requirements. Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices
in operation; listening for problems; using careful measuring and testing instruments–
report using CMMS package (SAP)
2 Responsible for shift mechanical maintenance work.
3 Assemble, install, test, and maintain mechanical equipment, applications, device using hand
tools and power tools.
4 Carry out follow up work (visual and PM checks) as scheduled on CMMS (SAP).
5 Carry out lubrication to plant as schedule
6 Carry out routine adjustments to prolong equipment life
7 Fabricates (welding) repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.
8 Communicate with operators to establish early equipment failure.
9 Maintains equipment, parts, and inventories, anticipating needed equipment, parts, and
supplies; placing work order in SAP.

10 Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing
information and trends.
11 Carry out predictive maintenance activities like vibration monitoring etc. on moving
mechanical parts like gearboxes, bearings etc.
12 Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance.
13 Recommend shift area leader on mechanical machinery condition inspection points as part
of start-up activities during new projects.
14 Assist external vendors during service.
15 Inspection of new received mechanical parts in engineering store.

1. Attend all breakdowns and undertake repairs as required. Trouble shooting should be
fast and effective
2. Feedback to area leader/ executive for any follow-up required and help in identification
of the root cause of the problems
3. Maintains equipment, parts, and inventories, anticipating needed equipment, parts, and
supplies; placing work order in SAP.
4. Recommend materials to be absorbed in stores inventory.
5. Check quality of delivered mechanical spares required to complete maintenance in time
6. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
7. Diagnose malfunctioning systems, device, and components, using test equipment and
hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
8. Assist shift area leader in standardization and / or localization of spares and equipment.

4. Safety

1. Undertake all maintenance tasks with appropriate PPE & procedures


2. Adhere to safe working practices such as working at height regulations like all
equipment / motor guards are fitted securely
3. Ensure equipment is correctly isolated (LOTO procedures) when maintenance is carried
out
4. All floors are kept dry to minimize slips
5. Identify & report any unsafe working conditions/ machine faults
6. Propose plant improvements in terms of safety and carry out the same once approved
7. Carry out regular safety inspections of working areas

5. General Maintenance

1. Keep mechanical bay / workshop tidy & ready for repairs
2. Test gear drive and other components for stores to confirm operation.
3. Carry out repairs to parts removed if required & return to stores
4. Assist with electrical tasks as required
5. Perform any other reasonable work related tasks as instructed by AM (Maintenance).
6. Ensuring workability of all kinds of tools including portable tools

• Must have: ITI Mechanical / Dip Mechanical education with 5 -7 years of Experience
• He should have basic knowledge in computer applications like MS office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
