carrying out the test in a correct manner. WARNING: the time limit assigned to you includes the reading of
these instructions as well as the completion of the test.
The test consists of various types of questions. For each question, you will be given three, four or five
possible answers. For each question, you must choose only one of the answers provided. Choose the most
correct and complete answer.
You will find the questions in this booklet. You must mark your answers on the answer sheet that has been
provided along with the booklet.
Mark your answers by filling in the corresponding box ( ) on the answer sheet.
ATTENTION: do not write your answers in this booklet. Use the appropriate answer sheet that has been
provided.
On the answer sheet, only fill in the boxes ( ) that correspond with the answers that you want to give.
Do not make any other marks on the sheet.
You are not allowed to change your answer once it has been filled in on the answer sheet.
Always check that the number of the question in the booklet is the same as the one placed next to the box
in which you mark your answer on the answer sheet.
Make sure – before you start – that there are no printing errors in the booklet and/or on the answer sheet.
If you find any errors, immediately bring them to the attention of one of the assistants who will provide you
with a different booklet.
Here are some examples of the kind of questions that you will find in the booklet with explanations for how
you should respond. Carefully read the examples and explanations relating thereto.
Do not write the answers to the examples on the answer sheet. Questions relating to the actual test begin
on page 5.
EXAMPLES
To answer question E1, read the following passage:
On the economic front, there are also clear signs of rapid changes; one of which is connected to the
restructuring of companies, which is becoming more frequent on average, even to compete internationally.
E1. After reading the excerpt, it is now known that:
1. small businesses in our country do not have restructuring problems
2. international competition has an impact on the need for companies to restructure more frequently
than in the past
3. our products are competitive, especially abroad
4. our country remains economically stagnant for small and medium-sized companies
Regarding example E1, the correct answer is indicated by the number 2. To answer, therefore, you should
black out box 2 on the answer sheet, in correspondence to example E1.
Page 3
Example E2 presents a histogram showing the number of men and women who work in the three
departments of the Rossi & C. company.
E2. What is the percentage of women who work at Rossi & C.?
1. 50%
2. 30%
3. 26.5%
4. 37.5%
5. It is not possible to answer on the basis of this data
To find the percentage of women who work at Rossi & C., you need to calculate how many people in total
work at the company (36 + 9 + 6 + 8 + 9 + 12 = 80). Then, calculate how many of these people are women (9 +
9 + 12 = 30). With this data, it is now possible to calculate the percentage [(30/80) * 100], which is equal to
37.5%. Therefore, the correct answer is number 4. To answer, therefore, you should black out box 4 on the
answer sheet, in correspondence to example E2.
In example E3, the question regards two people, Massimo and Laura. First of all, a situation that Massimo
or Laura believe to be true will be presented. This will be followed by some information (marked with a ●),
which you will need to study carefully. You need to establish what effect the new information may have, if
indeed it has any effect at all, on the beliefs of Massimo or Laura.
To answer you must black out box as follows:
1. if the new information confirms the beliefs of Massimo or Laura;
2. if it is contrary to their belief;
3. if it has no influence on their belief.
E3. Laura believes that when the lift arrives on her floor, it will beep twice.
• Every time the lift opens on Laura’s floor without beeping at all.
Page 4
Laura’s belief concerns the connection between the arrival of the lift on her floor and the sounding of two
beeps. The information provided concerns, verified by Laura herself, in which the lift arrived on her floor
without beeping at all. Therefore the correct answer is number 2, because the information is contrary to Laura’s
belief. To answer therefore, you should black out box 2 which corresponds with example E3 on the answer
sheet.
Inside the test booklet, you will find questions that will test your knowledge of English. You will be
presented with a passage in English, in which some words are missing and marked with an ellipsis in the text
(........). You will have to choose the option, among the five presented, that you think best fills in the gap to
complete the sentence. You will also be presented with some questions concerning mathematics, history,
Italian literature, and logic and reasoning. Finally, you will be asked to solve some mathematical problems.
In the booklet, you will find questions similar to the above examples. Read each question carefully and give
your answer on the answer sheet.
REMEMBER:
• give your answers on the answer sheet by blacking out the box ( ) that corresponds with your answer
• you may not correct answers once filled in
• you will receive 1 point for every correct response, 0 points for multiple or absent answers and –0.25
points for every incorrect answer
• answer all types of questions

Read the passage below and use the information to answer the following five questions
Try to pronounce the name Val di Mello in the presence of a mountaineer. Be sure, his eyes will shine. It lies
between the Valtellina and the Swiss border, in a small valley where the geology seems to have worked on
commission of the climbers, distributing soaring cliffs and transporting erratic boulders of all sizes up to
hundreds of kilometres from the glacier. 40 years ago, the modern climbing was born just here in Italy. In this
place, over the years, dense crowds of geckos with human features have humbled the law of gravity, opening
impossible routes with names that were often evocative of their danger: "Way to Hell", "The sweet Afterlife
recall". However, this alpine corner is much more: the granite Eden also welcomes splendid woods, old stone
houses and water, lots of water, which often falls into thundering waterfalls. Just the latter whetted the appetite
of private companies, attracted more by the hydroelectric business than the breathtaking beauty of a unique
place in the world.
44. Which is the main feature of the routes opened in this place?

Read the passage below and use the information to answer the following five questions
So many people sail the seas driven by the trade winds or chasing the puffs of whales, along a daring route
that combines both challenge and passion, in search of childlike wonder. However, the story of Gino Vensi,
coming from Cilento, has a different meaning, with origins in the Italian epic. Vensi, in fact, is following the
route of three Garibaldians from Cilento who, in 1879, sailed from Montevideo, in Uruguay, headed to Italy to
pay tribute to their hero, Garibaldi. Vensi has dreamed of this crossing since his adolescence and he worked
hard for this undertaking. His wife and children encouraged him to follow his dream. Vensi has long thought
Page 13
about the three sailors who were considered insane by everyone, he has re-read their stories and believes that
their undertaking should not be forgotten. Everything to follow a dream? Maybe not. Not everyone knows
about the 100 small cotton bags containing ground from Cilento he brought with him after discovering that
Patagonia, the southernmost city in the world, is home of almost 300 people from Campania, children of
immigrants; Gino has wanted to stop there too, to bring them their homeland and its unique scent.

Read the passage below and use the information to answer the following five questions
One of the seven wonders of the ancient world is the Great Pyramid of Pharaoh Khufu at Giza. It is a monument
with a colossal size that has raised and raises fascinating interpretive hypotheses, even if often odd. This
monument, symbol of a millenary and mysterious civilization, has always bewitched the Western man, who
has never been able to explain its origin. In the fifth century Herodotus visited ancient Egypt, exotic and
esoteric land, and stated that it took 10 years to raise the embankment and 20 years for the Pyramid; Khufu
would have devoted years of his reign in the preparation of the immense burial. People have always tried to
explain how the giant stones have been erected. In addition to the established hypothesis that they built
embankments to carry the stone blocks to a higher and higher height, there is also a new theory. The Egyptians
were extraordinary navigators along the Nile and their boats were sailing boats, moved by powerful winds.
Some researchers believe that the engineers who built the pyramids could use the sails to move the blocks and
place them in the vicinity of the building, taking advantage of the wind propulsive thrust.

1. has superseded the previous theories
2. is still considered plausible
