Group 1: Field trip to observe fishing practices on the river to identify management
constraints and mitigation measures
Suppose, you are planning to visit a fishing communities located on the bank of Padma river at
Manikganj district. Prepare a questionnaire to understand the types of fishing practices they are
using to catch fish from the river. What are the fisheries management strategies implemented in
the river. Identify potential constraints of management strategies and possible suggestions to
overcome the challenges.
Group 2: Field trip to fishing villages on the bank of the Old Brahmaputra river for
livelihood analysis of fishers.
Suppose, you are visiting a fishing village located at Satkhira district. Recently, the fishers of the
communities are affected by a sudden cyclone named “Cyclone Amphan”. Prepare a
questionnaire to understand the impacts of Cyclone Amphan on the livelihood status of the
fishing communities through the lens of sustainable livelihood approach (SLA).
Group 3: Visit to fish markets for observation of marketing systems with its constraints
and mitigation measures.
Suppose, you have recently visited the fish market at Launch Ghat, Gopalganj. Prepare a
questionnaire to understand the fish and price trends in the market, identify marketing channels,
constraints and possible recommendation to overcome the challenges.
Group 4: Visit to fisheries cooperative society to understand how fisheries regulations are
being implemented.
Suppose, you have recently visited a fishing village at Jhapa Baor, Jashore where a fisheries
cooperative society is working. Prepare a questionnaire to understand the activities of the
fisheries cooperative society and how they take part in fisheries regulations implementation.
Group 5: Study on hilsa fisheries management practices in Bangladesh
Suppose, you visited a fishing community located on the bank of the Padma river. In the Padma
river, the government has implemented two months fishing ban to conserve hilsa fisheries.
Prepare a questionnaire to assess the effectiveness of the two month fishing bans.
Group 6: Visit to a place where Community based fisheries management are being
implemented
Suppose, you visit a community based fisheries management (CBFM) project located in Jashore
district of Bangladesh. The project was implemented 10 years earlier. Prepare a questionnaire to
understand the impacts of CBFM on the fisheries production, fisheries biodiversity and
dependent fishers’ socio-economic conditions of that particular area. Also identify potential
conflicts and challenges of the CBFM project.
Group 7: Visit to haor, baor, beel and floodplain to understand sustainable fisheries
management practices.
Suppose, you have recently visited a haor in Sylhet district where ecosystem approach to
fisheries management (EAFM) is implemented. Prepare a questionnaire to understand the
impacts of the EAFM on the fisheries biodiversity and dependent fishing communities.
