Reflection Paper: Major Organization

Major Organization provided plenty of knowledge that will help alumni be braver in
the long learning journey ahead. This reflection paper encompasses all the values I
comprehended after the meaningful class.

So, what did I learn? There was major information about many aspects of
personality, reputation, history, and especially culture. First, this class made me think
deeply at the bottom of my heart: Who am I? Who do I want to be? And what did I do after
18 years? Particularly, I thought of myself in the future for the first time. I used to be
present-focused, just living day by day, and did not have so much ambition or aims. After I
attended Major Organization, I realized that life is not as short as I have thought for my
whole life. We need to be active, energetic, and proactive in most situations.

What is English Linguistics? It is not just about learning the four skills (listening,
speaking, writing, and reading). English Linguistics involves learning deeply about all of
English in practice and languages in general. It is completely different from the amateur
who just learned those skills, attended some certifications like IELTS and TOEIC, and
used English to be their means of earning money. Learning English Linguistics allowed
alumni to thoroughly understand English. Major Organization imprinted an opinion in
students’ heads: “English is not the destination; English is expediency.” Language learners
will not only utilize their education for their reputation but also for their lifelong learning.
The more you learn about a language, the more you know about its life and culture. With
English Linguistics, alumni can gain jobs in three main directions: interpretation and
translation, teaching, and Anglo-American culture and literature. “English is expediency.”
English will open a wide range of opportunities for students in their future career paths.

To ensure that alumni will steadily walk on the learning journey, the Major
Organization class provided us access to instruction in software skills, which are crucial in
the entire learning journey. These skills help us overcome sudden situations and improve
our learning efficiency. For example, an alumnus who has searching skills will be more
proactive in acquiring knowledge than others who do not. In practice, software skills
enhance our chances in the modern working environment; for instance, recruiters will
prioritize applicants who possess more software skills and can manipulate them fluently in
their work. Software skills are particularly vital in this century, not only for reputation but
also for lifelong learning.

By self-identifying my strengths and weaknesses, I gradually understand myself


better and thereby improve myself. I consider that I have a tough mentality. In most
situations, I can keep my mind, my feelings, and my actions as stable as possible.
Additionally, I can fluently speak in public if the topic is one that I am passionate about or
thoroughly understand. Listening is another strength; I am an emotional person who is
willing to listen to others’ confidences about all issues in life. This quality makes it easy
for me to gain their affection and trust. Furthermore, my teamwork skills are quite
impressive. I can unite group members in our projects and undertake most of the work. On
the other hand, I also recognize my weaknesses. One significant issue is my strong
misgiving. Due to some past trauma, it takes me a long time to trust someone or fully
engage in integration.

Setting goals is important. Not only that, but identifying practical steps to reach your
goals is the path that brings us success. Looking ahead, my personal goals include
graduating from university with excellent degrees and building a solid relationship system
to ensure success in the next stage of my life. My action plan consists of specific steps:
seeking mentorship or guidance, proactively creating more relationships with people and
lecturers, and changing my daily schedule to better fit my studies.

Overall, I have gained valuable insights into English Linguistics. Understanding my


strengths has boosted my confidence while recognizing my weaknesses has highlighted
areas for my growth. By setting goals for myself, I have finally found the right ways to
achieve them, which will be crucial for my development. This lesson has not only
enhanced my understanding of organizational dynamics but has also inspired me to take
more steps toward personal growth.

The student believes that setting goals and identifying practical steps are crucial for success because they provide a clear path to achieve ambitions, which inspired and structured the student's path towards university graduation with excellent degrees and building strong relationships for future career success .

English Linguistics offers career opportunities in three major pathways: interpretation and translation, teaching, and deep engagement with Anglo-American culture and literature. These pathways leverage the comprehensive understanding of English promised by English Linguistics over merely attaining language certification for elementary purposes .

Software skills in the modern context are crucial for enhancing learning efficiency and overcoming unexpected situations. They increase a student's proactive acquisition of knowledge, making them more appealing to recruiters who prioritize applicants skilled in manipulating such tools. These skills are vital not only for personal reputation but for lifelong learning and adaptability in the modern working environment .

The student's background of focusing on the present reflects a less ambitious mindset initially; however, through the Major Organization course, they have turned towards future-oriented thinking. Past traumas, such as difficulty in trusting others, also influence their slow adaptation to new environments. This shapes a cautious yet determined approach to learning and personal development, where goals and actionable steps are thoroughly considered .

The reflection paper highlights that by understanding personal strengths and weaknesses, the student has become better at self-improvement. Recognizing strengths like public speaking and listening has boosted confidence, whereas identifying weaknesses such as trust issues has guided the student towards setting practical goals and forming action plans to address them. This self-awareness has equipped the student to use their strengths effectively while continuously working on their weaknesses .

The student's specific action plans include seeking mentorship or guidance, proactively building relationships with peers and lecturers, and altering daily schedules to better fit study requirements.
