MTP-2 DOMESTIC CONDUCT NOTES

SCHEDULING: This EVENT requires a 90-minute brief and 4:00 in the FTD followed by a 30 minute debrief.

MANEUVERS NOTES:

1. The intent is to gain proficiency and standardization in the maneuvers in this lesson. If necessary, repeat
items to attain the proper level of proficiency and standardization.

2. LOSA 2019: This area includes opportunity for crew to demonstrate effective Flight Path Management, Flight
Path Monitoring, crosschecking and verification between pilots, FMA scan and awareness, and skills
associated with the manual control of the aircraft. IP should monitor these areas closely and be ready to
guide the crew if proficiency is not initially demonstrated..

3. First look maneuvers are not briefed prior to the first execution of the maneuver. but may be briefed and
repeated (if necessary) after the first attempt.

4. All other maneuvers should be reviewed prior to execution. We want to convey our expectations prior to
commencing each maneuver, unless the event is a “first look” event.

5. Utilize the position freeze and reposition to cursor functions as necessary to control the tempo of the lesson.

6. For subsequent Approaches using the same Approach procedure, the instructor may direct an
abbreviated setup and briefing once proficiency is demonstrated.

7. Non-normal procedures should be completed in their entirety unless otherwise specified in the courseware.

8. Grading: Grade the lesson via AQP Grade Form in Mint

9. SEAT SUPPORT (SS) GUIDANCE:

• Lessons conducted with Seat Support will be completed in their entirety exactly as for a paired crew.

10. IECQT, LCA, and ADG GUIDANCE:

• Fly the entire lesson as a paired crew in opposite seats from MTP1.
• After completion of the MTP2, I/E, LCA, and ADG sitting in the right seat will need to swap to left seat
to repeat the CAT III, RTO, and EVAC.
• For Instructor/Evaluator (I/E) and LCA students, and Aircraft Delivery Group (ADG - Part 91)
students, do not submit an AQP grade sheet; instead, grade these students as “Complete” or
“Incomplete”, directly in MINT.

CREW SETUP/SA
➢ FO/CA
➢ Main objective: to get airborne and train for an unreliable airspeed indications condition (below thrust reduction
altitude). This is NOT an exercise in runway decision making, however if CA executes an RTO, ask CA to explain
what factors were under consideration, then repeat so as to get airborne and achieve the objective.
➢ Clearance: 19R, MOLEN# CLIMB VIA SID, MAINTAIN 7000; FMS should auto-load with PERF Data
➢ 3 knots prior to V1, bird strike occurs: “Continue” is the likely CA response.
➢ CA PFD airspeed subsequently becomes erroneous (notional damage to pitot probe): continue
➢ During climbout (300’ AFE) FO PFD airspeed becomes erroneous (notional damage to pitot probe)
➢ Crew should recognize as “Unreliable Airspeed Indications” and respond with QRC
➢ Continue until crew levels-off for troubleshooting (QRC complete). No intent to run QRH!
➢ IP note: The STBY airspeed is operating normally; if crew observes this, good. Otherwise, point out afterwards
➢ Repeat for the CA.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES/EMPHASIS ITEMS
➢ Maintaining flight path control with unreliable airspeed indications via application of QRC. Note: rising terrain
off the departure end of runway 19R
➢ FMA should be referenced to confirm QRC steps
➢ CRM/ TEM: the PF must remain the PF and the PM should run the QRC and communicate with ATC

GO/NO-GO DECISION MAKING / UNRELIABLE AIRSPEED (FO/CA)

UNRELIABLE AIRSPEED
➢ Crucial is flight path control while executing QRC:
○ Pitch, thrust IAW QRC, no missed steps, avoid terrain, ATC comms
○ Crew develops a correct shared mental model
o Crew requests an altitude for troubleshooting
o Crew levels off at altitude for troubleshooting (per QRC)
o Event is complete when the aircraft is stable at their chosen altitude.
➢ If the crew contacts the tower for a heading and/ or altitude:
UNRELIABLE AIRSPEED “JETBLUE 82 TURN LEFT HEADING 020 CLIMB AND MAINTAIN 5000”

• Tell crew to recover at the first indication of stall (natural or artificial) without additional IP prompting
• Recovery will require a reduction of AoA, which will naturally cause additional loss of altitude
➢ Instruct crew: maneuver is complete when aircraft is returned to straight and level, un-accelerated flight path

➢ FO IS PF: landing must be made by FO for AQP purposes (number of landings per CQT visit)
➢ Scenario: an air return due to a PED battery fire (w/smoke) in a carry-on bag located in the aft part of cabin (the
decision to air return has already been made)
➢ No smoke in the cockpit; O2 masks are not needed at commencement of scenario
➢ Gross weight is below maximum landing weight.
➢ On 12-mile final, the #1 IFC called with an update: the fire is out; smoke is lingering in the CABIN. Flight crew
elected to skip fume removal procedure and prioritize air return; #1 IFC reports everyone seems to be breathing
ok.
➢ From this point (before continuing the approach) the IP must facilitate a TEM discussion (and role play as IFE #1)
➢ Ask the CA/ crew to discuss threats, risks, and TEM mitigations that would/ could apply in the scenario
➢ Although the air return is decided already, would the CA/ crew declare an emergency with ATC?
➢ Should Code YELLOW or RED be used in this scenario? (i.e., what is the likelihood of an evacuation?)
➢ How would CA choose to build TEM defenses against these or other risks in an air-return, cabin fire scenario?

If the crew does not inform the tower of intentions to stop on the runway:
“JETBLUE 82 SAN FRANCISCO TOWER, SAY INTENTIONS AFTER LANDING”
➢ Stopping on the runway is the best choice to evaluate the situation and
communicate with the cabin crew. Based on the information there is a good
chance of evacuation.
➢ After the aircraft comes to a stop on the runway:
➢ CA: Parking brake, “CABIN CREW AT STATIONS.”
➢ IP will interact and respond as necessary.
➢ When the CA calls the cabin crew to obtain an update on the cabin status:
IP (F1): “THE FIRE IN THE BAG HAS STARTED AGAIN AND IS GETTING
WORSE. WE HAVE A LOT OF SMOKE BACK HERE; SPARKS AND FLAMES ARE
EVACUATION COMING FROM THE BAG. WE CAN’T GET TO THE DEVICE OR THE BAG…TOO
