• Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed spoke of the
country's "unity, cohesion and solidarity" in a
Flag Day address "We raise the flag today to
SHEIKH ZAYED show our great love and appreciation for the
MESSAGE UAE President for his national efforts and his
continuous initiatives to keep the nation high
and cherished," said the then Crown Prince of
Abu Dhabi.
What is flag day?
• On November 3, the United Arab Emirates
will celebrate the UAE Flag Day – an
annual event marking the anniversary of
the accession of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa
bin Zayed Al Nahyan as President of the
UAE, while promoting the national flag as a
symbol of cultural and patriotic pride.

Who designed THE UAE Flag?
• The Flag was designed by Mr. Abdulla
Mohammed Al Ma'enah after he read an
advertisement announcing a competition for
designing the UAE flag sponsored by Al
Diwan Al Amiri Abu Dhabi.
What do the colors of the
UAE flag mean?
• Green refers to goodness and agriculture,
abundant throughout the country. White
refers to peace. Black refers to courage
and power. Red refers to power and
sovereignty.

Who hoisted the
UAE flag?
• The flag was first used on the 2nd
of December in 1971, hoisted by the
late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al
Nahyan, the founding father of the
UAE.
Which is the national
animal of UAE?
• The Arabian oryx is the national animal of
the UAE. In Arabic, its called Al Maha
There is a common misconception that the
Camel is the national animal of the UAE
due to its large presence here, but in fact,
it's the Arabian Oryx.
