Packaging Design Fall 2024 |Assignment 3: Individual Packaging Design (Formerly

Assignment 1 – Surface Design Task)

Design Brief: Building on the theme of your final graduation project, create a net for packaging a
product of your choice, featuring a distinct and appealing external design to capture consumer
attention. Examples include an unconventionally shaped tissue box, a box of chocolates, or packaging
for a small toy. Your design should be practical, innovative, and visually appealing, made from cardstock
(thick paper), and easy to assemble with clean folds and cuts. Consider your target audience and ensure
the design reflects the product while engaging buyers effectively

Deliverables:

Net Design
 Include dielines showing where the package should be cut and folded. You may use digital
vector software of your choice (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW, etc.) to create the net.
 Final printed design (surface design on net): include a visually appealing surface design that
enhances the overall package.
 Your net should be sophisticated, functional, and complex. Think outside the box and challenge
traditional shapes.
 Explore interactive features (e.g. add layers, folds, cuts), or sustainable design elements, how
can your packaging provide a unique unboxing experience?
 Your design should be thoughtful and add value beyond just holding the product.

Sketches & Brainstorming:


 Present your initial brainstorming sketches and ideas, showcasing how you arrived at the final
design.
 Explain your creative process, including shape experimentation and design refinement.

Incorporate the following visual design elements:


 Brand Name: The name of the product or brand.
 Logo: A recognizable symbol or mark representing the brand.
 Illustration: An illustration or image showing what is inside the box.
 Text/Labeling: Clear, readable text describing the contents, ingredients, or any important
product details.
 Additional Graphics: Patterns, colors, or designs that support the product’s branding.
