Revision- Half-Yearly Model Question Paper

1) The radius of curvature of a converging mirror is 30 cm. At what distance from the mirror should
an object be placed so as to obtain a virtual image?
a) Infinity
b) 30 cm
c) Between 15 cm and 30 cm
d) Between 0 cm and 15 cm

2) The correct sequencing of angle of incidence, angle of emergence, angle of refraction and lateral
displacement shown in the following diagram by digits 1,2,3 and 4 is:

a) 2,4,1,3
b) 2,1,4,3
c) 1,2,4,3
d) 2,1,3,4

3) If a beam of red light and a beam of violet light are incident at the same angle on the inclined
surface of a prism from air medium and produce angle of refraction r and v respectively, which of the
following is correct?
a) r=v
b) r>v
c) r = 1/v
d) r<v

4) The sky appears dark to passengers flying at very high altitudes mainly because:
a) Scattering of light is not enough at such heights
b) There is no atmosphere at great heights
c) The size of molecule is smaller than the wavelength of visible light
d) The light gets scatter towards the earth

Instruction for Assertion (A) and Reasoning (R)

a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A.

b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A.
c) A is true, R is false
d) A is false, R is true

5) Assertion (A) :Ciliary muscles help in changing the focal length of the eye lens.
Reason (R) :Ciliary muscles help to focus near and distant objects in quick succession.

6) Assertion (A) : The scattered light makes path of light visible.

Reason (R) : Scattering of light is the result of tyndall effect.

7) The power of a lens is +5 diopters. What is the nature and focal length of this lens? At what
distance from this lens should an object be placed so as to get its inverted image of the same size?

8) How will you use two identical prisms so that a narrow beam of white light incident on one prism
emerges out of the second prism as white light? Draw the diagram.

9) i) A person is suffering from both myopia and hypermetropia

a) What kind of lenses can correct this defect?
b) How are these lenses prepared?

ii) A person needs a lens of power +3D for correcting his near vision and -3D for correcting his distant
vision. Calculate the focal lengths of the lenses required to correct these defects.

10) It is desired to obtain an erect image of an object, using concave mirror of focal length of 12 cm?
i) What should be the range of the object distance in the above case?
ii) Will the image be smaller or larger that the object? Draw a ray diagram to show the formation of image
in this case?
iii) Where will the image of this object be, if it is placed 24 cm in front of the mirror?

11) i) With the help of a suitable circuit diagram, prove that the reciprocal of the equivalent resistance of a
group of resistances joined in parallel is equal to the sum of the reciprocals of the individual resistances.
ii) In an electric circuit, two resistors of 12 Ω each are joined in parallel to a 6 V battery. Find the current
drawn from the battery.

12) When an electric current passes through a conductor(like a high resistance wire) the conductor
becomes hot after some time and produces heat. This is called heating effect of electric current or joule
heating or ohmic heating or resistive heating. The heating effect of electric current is widely used in our
day-to-day life. The electric laundry iron, electric toaster, electric bulb, fuse and electric heater are some
of the familiar devices based on Joule’s heating.
Read the above passage carefully and give the answer of the following questions:
1) Write the mathematical expression for Joule’s lw of heating.
2) The following table gives the resistivity of three samples:
Sample A B C
-5 -5 -4
Resistivity 1.6 x 10 Ω m 5.2 x 10 Ω m 100 x 10 Ω m
Which of them is suitable for heating elements of electrical appliances and why?

3) Why does the cord of an electric heater not glow while the heating element does?
4) State a difference between the wire used in the element of an electric heater and in a fuse
wire.Tungsten is used almost exclusively for filament of electric bulb. List two reasons.
