Restoring Deluge Valve in Service from RELEASE operation:

1. Ensure Deluge Control Gate Valve is closed.

2. Ensure Priming Valve is in CLOSED position.
3. Ensure the system has been properly drained by keeping Auxiliary Drain
Valve in OPEN position.
4. Verify there is no more standing water by depressing the Drip Check Valve.
5. Verify from the CCR HMI operator that the initiating device activating the
system reset to “NORMAL”.
6. Verify that all Releasing Devices are reset.
7. CLOSE Auxiliary Drain Valve.
8. OPEN Priming Valve.
9. Allow the Hydraulic Release System to fill until pressure gauge indicates
equal to the system pressure.

To verify that a deluge valve system is ready for service after a release operation, several steps must be followed. First, ensure the Deluge Control Gate Valve is closed . Next, check that the Priming Valve is also in the CLOSED position . The system must be properly drained, accomplished by keeping the Auxiliary Drain Valve open and verifying there's no standing water using the Drip Check Valve . Coordinate with the CCR HMI operator to ensure the initiating device has reset to 'NORMAL', and confirm all releasing devices are reset . Finally, the Auxiliary Drain Valve should be closed, the Priming Valve opened, and the hydraulic pressure equalized before fully opening and securing the Deluge Control Gate Valve .

The Drip Check Valve is critical during restoration of a deluge valve system because it allows operators to verify that all standing water has been removed from the system. By depressing the Drip Check Valve, any remaining water can be identified and drained, ensuring the system is completely dry before proceeding with further restoration steps .

Failure to reset releasing devices compromises the operational integrity of the deluge valve system by leaving it vulnerable to unplanned activations or rendering it incapable of reacting in an emergency. This failure could lead to water wastage, system flooding, or a lack of response during a fire, endangering safety and protection protocols .

Equalizing pressure as indicated by the pressure gauge is imperative to ensure that there is no significant pressure differential across the system before fully opening the Deluge Control Gate Valve. This step prevents water hammer, reduces the risk of mechanical stress on the system components, and allows for a controlled reintroduction of water throughout the system .

The Auxiliary Drain Valve must remain open to allow for any residual water in the system to be drained, ensuring complete drying of the deluge system pipes before further operation. This step is essential to prevent water accumulation that could lead to corrosion or operational inefficiency in the system .

The sequence of opening and closing valves in a deluge system restoration process is critical for ensuring system integrity and preventing water damage or failure. Initially, keeping the Deluge Control Gate Valve closed allows maintenance checks without unintended activation . The Priming Valve in the CLOSED position prevents premature filling of the system . Opening the Auxiliary Drain Valve ensures complete drainage, preventing water stagnation and potential pipe bursts if frozen . As the system's hydraulic pressure builds, pressures must be matched before fully reopening the Deluge Control Gate Valve, ensuring a controlled and safe restoration to readiness .

Verifying with the CCR HMI operator that the initiating device has reset to 'NORMAL' is necessary to confirm that the system is no longer in an active or alert state, which could inadvertently trigger the deluge system if another event were to occur . This ensures that any previous disturbances have been resolved, and the system is correctly synchronized for safe operation and testing .

Securing the Deluge Control Gate Valve with a carseal ensures that the valve remains in the desired position, preventing accidental openings or tampering. This not only maintains the readiness of the system for potential activation but also contributes to the safety of the environment by prohibiting unintentional water discharge .

Adjustments to the sequence of valve operations may be necessary in scenarios like post-maintenance checks that reveal unexpected blockages or leaks. Critical considerations include ensuring no downstream pressure build-up impacts the system integrity and that any extra drainage or refilling does not introduce air pockets or create unintended stress on system components . Proper communication with maintenance personnel and using diagnostics to inform sequence tweaks are crucial to maintaining system integrity and safety .

Ensuring all releasing devices are reset is crucial because these devices control the release of water in response to system activation. Resetting them ensures they are ready to function in the event of another fire or emergency situation. It prevents accidental releases and ensures the system will operate as designed, providing safety and efficiency upon reactivation .
