LETTER
1. Letter is means of written communication to convey messages from one party to another party, either as
individual or organization.
(Surat adalah salah satu komunikasi untuk menyampaikan pesan dari satu pihak ke pihak lain, baik itu
secara perorangan atau kelompok/organisasi).
2. Elements of Letter:
a. Sender = The person organization that convey a message
b. Message = The content of letters in the form of information, instruction, ideas, or
feelings of the sender.
c. Recipient = The person or organization that receive the messages.
3. Types / Kinds of Letter
1) Formal Letter These letters follow a certain pattern and formality.
Example:
a. Business letter = The letter is written between business corespondence,
generally contents; orders, complaints, etc.
b. Office letter = This type of letter is written to inform offices,
subordinates official information. It usually relays
official information, like rules, procedure, event or
another information.
c. Application letter, etc. = Is a letter to express your interesting applying for a
job.
2) Informal Letter These are personal letters. They need not follow any set
pattern or adhere to any formalities.
Example:
a. Letter to parents
b. Letter to sibling
c. Letter to friends
d. Letter to classmates, etc.
4. Parts / Generic Structure of Formal or Informal Letter:
1) Place, date, years (Tanggal)
2) Address (Alamat)
3) Greeting (Salam)
4) Opening sentence (Kalimat Pembuka)
5) Concluding Sentences ( Kalimat Penutup)
6) Greeting Closing (Salam Penutup)
7) Signature (Tanda Tangan)
8) Name of the sender (Nama Pengirim)
