THE CANDLE
CANDLE MAKING CRAFT
All candles in the originalhome collection are poured by hand. The
process is simple but requires a lot of patience and concentration.
POURERS FROM
The vegan wax is melted in big kettles and then poured into
jars. The jar is used to pour the liquid wax into an iron mold
that contains a cotton wick. Candle pouring is actually a very
EAST JAVA, precise skill. The wax should be poured into the mold in one fluid
motion to create a consistent candle. This requires control and
concentration. It is said that women are the best candle pourers.
INDONESIA
The founders of the candle factory started
their business for a specific reason: giving back
to their community in East-Java, Indonesia.
Their starting point was to empower the
community by creating more job opportunities.
The founders could have easily operated their
business with machines; however, this would
not have been in line with their goals. They set
up a workshop that produces vegan candles
entirely by hand. More hands means more job
opportunities for rural communities because
these areas suffer from high unemployment
rates. The majority of their workforce consists
of rural women. They receive a special candle
pouring training program, English classes and
other life skill lessons to increase their family
income.
The WFTO certified workshop provides these
women with a safe working environment,
fair wages and free medical insurance for
themselves and their families. This way of
working empowers these rural women to
become more independent and increase the
respect they receive from their community.

MY WORLD! CARE INSTRUCTIONS
• Clean the candle with a soft, dry cloth to remove the candle dust. Candle dust is a
thin layer that occurs when candles are exposed to large temperature differences.
• Trim the wick regularly to 1 cm in length to prevent the candle from burning too
quickly.
• Place it on a flat, heat resistant surface and keep it away from draft.
• Do not place the candle close to a heat source or sunlight to avoid melting or
colour fading.
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
• Never leave a burning candle unattended.
• Keep away from children and pets.
• Place candles at a distance of 10 cm from each other to prevent candles from
dripping.
• Keep candles away from draft and flammable materials (before lighting the
candle), this also includes other (paraffin) candles.
• Place the candle on a flat heat-resistant surface. Please make sure that the candle
is fixed and cannot fall over.
• Do not place a burnt match or other materials in the candle grease (do not light
the candle with another candle).
• Use a snuffer to extinguish a candle or blow carefully while holding your hand
behind the candle.
• Do not add water or any other fluid to the candle.
• Do not move a burning candle.
• Place the candle straight up to prevent the candle from dripping and smoking.
• Do not mix paraffin wax or any other burning material with palm kernel wax.
