association BROHERS ACROSS NIGERIA (BAN) also known as Buccaneers Confraternity was
created in the year 1972 at the University of Ibadan which is known as Modaship.
Three young gentlemen Bolaji Carew, Tunde Jawando and Kunle Adigun who are the founding
fathers of BAN broke out of Pyrate Confraternity due to some irregular activities and violation
of the confraternity’s creed by some hierarchical pyrates at that time odas ceased to be odas,
which gave rise to the founding of the Buccaneers Confraternity.
The confraternity remained on MODASHIP DECK till 1976 when the confraternity started having
other decks in various parts of Nigeria .In 1982 after 10 years of its creation DOUBLOON was
held where Buccaneers Association of Nigeria was founded .This gave rise to the forming of

administrative structures outside decks which are Frigates, Galleons and HQ.
The fraternity was registered as BAN in the Nigerian government in the year 2002.
MEMBERSHIP
The confraternity is meant only for MALE gender (Men) and it has no female or sister
Report organization.
The male must be fit, intelligent and must have undergone tertiary education.
Before a non-member (*lubber) is certified for initiation he must pass through rugged
jaw jaw process (minimum of 3) before he can be considered for initiation into the
confraternity.
After the successful initiation of the new member into the confraternity the Deckhand
will be given a deck name( 5 Syllables ) which shows no traces of religion and tribe to
show that the confraternity frowns at Tribal and religious sentiments, to show oneness
and equality not minding where you come from.
A member that has not sailed in any of the strata of the confraternity for more than 3
years is called a DECK HAND.

Members still undergoing tertiary education are also called DECK HANDS.
Members that have sailed more than 3 years and have their NYSC certificate are
referred to as SALTED SEALORDS.
Members that have sailed for 10 – 15 years and above are called WEATHER BEATEN and
SUGAR COATED Sealords.
A SCARLET Sealord is a member that has sailed for more than 20 sagas on board the
confraternity. To be a scarlet Sealord, one must have helped a lot of sealords and your
GALLEON will have to nominate such member to be inied as a Scarlet.
THE BAN CREED
I _____________________ SHALL NOT DISCRIMINATE AGAINST ANY TRIBE OR
RELIGION BE IT FROM THIS NATION OR ANOTHER AND IN THE COURSE OF MY
DOING SO MAY MY BLOOD CLOTH WITHIN MY VEIN
This creed is very essential part of being a buccaneer so it is to be recited by every Sealord day
in day out to remind us who we are.
GRAND PA CHEST & ATUPA
o When there is any form of SALLY or INI it is necessary that this two items are present
during this buccaneering activities .The GRAND PA chest is a miniature casket or
wooden box and the ATUPA is an ancient lamp.
o The CHEST is a symbol of emptiness in human material form of flesh .When a man dies
all is reduced to a pack of bones and a casket buried six feet below the earth .this show
that life is a walking shadow ,the same sun shines on the rich and the poor and
everyone will be buried the same way.
o ATUPA is the symbol of light that guides us in our daily (VOYAGE) activities.

LOGOS
The traditional logo of the confraternity is a skull, a slanting dagger on each side of the skull and
a femur bone lying horizontal bellow the skull .this logo can also be called the BAN JACK.
The logo of the bones simply reminds us that we are just a pack of bones when we
eventually die .we are a pack of bones that share the same color with no ETHNIC,RACIST
or RELIGIOUS inscriptions on it .
The dangling sword or daggers warns us the dangers of discrimination amongst tribes
and religions.
In recent years the Logo has been redesigned to a slanting anchor in a yellow circle
COLORS
YELLOW Represents treasures and victory
BLACK Stands hard work or soberness
