This question paper consists of 33 questions and 7 pages.
General Instructions:
(1) There are 33 questions in all. All questions are compulsory.
(2) This question paper has five sections: Section A, Section B, Section C, Section D
and Section E.
(3) All the sections are compulsory.
(4) Section A contains sixteen questions, twelve MCQ and four Assertion Reasoning based of
1 mark each, Section B contains five questions of two marks each, Section C contains seven
questions of three marks each, Section D contains two case study-based questions of four
marks each and Section E contains three long answer questions of five marks each.
(5) There is no overall choice. However, an internal choice has been provided in one question in
Section B, one question in Section C, one question in each CBQ in Section D and all three
questions in Section E. You have to attempt only one of the choices in such questions.
(6) Use of calculators is not allowed.

19. A particle moves a distance x in time t according to equation x=(t+5)–1. Find the acceleration 2
of particle.
20. Two cylinders A and B, of equal capacity, are connected to each other via a stop-cock. 2
A contains a gas at standard temperature and pressure, B is completely evacuated and
the entire system is thermally insulated. If the stop – cock is suddenly opened, then
(a) What is the final pressure of the gas in A and B?
(b) What is the change in internal energy of the gas?
(c) What is the change in temperature of the gas? Justify each answer.
21. At the instant, the traffic light turns green, a car starts with a constant acceleration 2m/s2. 2
At the same time a truck moving with a constant speed of 10m/s overtake and passes the
car. How far beyond the starting point will the car overtake the truck? How fast will the
car be travelling at that instant?

A ball is thrown vertically upwards with a velocity of 20 m/s from top of a multistorey

22. Assuming the escape velocity (v) of a planet depends upon the gravitational constant (G), 3

25. A flywheel of moment of inertia 0.32kg−m2 is rotated steadily at 120 rad/sec by an 50W 3
electric motor. Find the kinetic energy, angular momentum and of the flywheel. Also calculate
the torque opposing the rotation.
26. Temperature of 100g of water is to be raised from 24°C to 90°C by adding steam to it. 3
Calculate the mass of the steam required for this purpose.

The time rate of change of position of the object in any direction is called speed of the
object. If an object covers equal distances in equal intervals of time, then its speed is
called uniform speed and if it covers unequal distances in equal intervals of time, then its
speed is called as nonuniform or variable speed. The ratio of the total distance travelled by
the object to the total time taken is called average speed of the object. The speed may be
positive or zero but never negative.

30. Read the following paragraph and answer the questions that follow:
The property due to which the free surface of liquid tends to have the minimum surface
area and behaves like a stretched membrane is called surface tension. It is a force per
unit length acting in the plane of interface between the liquid and the bounding surface
i.e., S = F/L, where F = force acting on either side of an imaginary line on the surface
and L = length of the imaginary line. Surface tension decreases with a rise in
temperature. Highly soluble impurities increase surface tension and sparingly so luble
impurities decrease surface tension.

32. (i) Derive an expression for work done during the adiabatic expansion of an ideal gas. 5
(ii) An ideal gas is taken around the cycle ABCDA as shown in the P – V diagram. What
is the work done during the cycle ?

(i) Explain the application of first law of thermodynamics to an isobaric process and
adiabatic process.
(ii) The efficiency of a Carnot engine is 1/2. If the sink temperature is reduced by 100°C,
its efficiency becomes 2/3 . Find the temperature of the source & the sink.
33. (a) State Bernoulli’s theorem. 5
