MEET YOUR EVER-SMILING CONCIERGE
Up close & personal with Shiromi
She’s one of the first people to greet you every morning as
you head for work, and you’ve probably spoken with her on
the phone when requesting services. We caught up with
Shiromi Kodikara from Sri Lanka, who’s been working in the
community for three years.
Why she loves it here: “Dubai Marina is a lovely community but the
best thing about this place is the residents. They’re so warm and
friendly, nobody is rude and not just with me, but with the cleaners, electricians and all staff!”
What a typical day is like: “I’m at my desk by 6:45 in the morning – I need to be ready to greet the residents
leaving for their workplaces. After my work, I have a bit of leisure time to relax and chat with friends.”
On her family back home: “I find it very peaceful here but I do miss my parents, and wish I could visit them
more often. I look forward to the holidays when I can fly home and spend time with them.”
Her ambitions: “I want to keep improving my skills and get better in communication. I know it’s something I
can achieve with the constant support of my supervisors and colleagues here.”
How friends describe her: “Shiromi has a number of great traits – she’s kind, helpful and resourceful. She’s
never too busy to help out a friend and goes out of her way get things done.”

READY, SET, PEDAL!
Community cycling etiquette
The mercury’s dropping and it’s the right time to get
pedaling – here are some pointers to keep in mind
while cruising through the neighbourhood:
1) Park at designated cycle racks in the ground floor
and parking areas of your community. Bikes that
aren’t parked at stands will be disposed of.
2) Always lock your cycle when parked at the stand.
3) Don’t leave damaged cycles at the stands. Ensure
that they’ve been repaired.
4) The stands are only meant for bikes. Skateboards, scooters,
hoverboards and other items must not be stored there.
5) Keep a clean bike! Wipe it regularly – dirty cycles ruin the
building’s appearance and will be removed and donated.

THE HOME AID BOX
Q. One of the windows in my home is stuck – how do
I open it without damaging it?
Use a plastic knife or a putty knife to gently score the line between
your window and the frame, slowly applying pressure to prise the
window open.
Once the window is open, apply a thin layer
of paraffin wax – if you don’t have wax, rub
soap around the edges.
