STPI- A PROFILE :

Software Technology Parks of India(STPI) is a society set-up by the Ministry of

Communication and information Technology, Government of India in 1991 with the
objective of encouraging, promoting and boosting the software exports from India.

STPI aims to keep India the most competitive source for software exports, with a twin
endeavor of keeping cost of operations low and in the view of developing multiple
centers for software exports.

STPI has identified cities and towns with potential as “Software Hamlets”. These are
being developed at a fast pace to encourage software development and exports.
Karnataka has four Software Hamlets Hubli,Mysore,Mangalore,and Manipal.

With the above aim, STPI-Bangalore with the support of Govt. of Karnataka has set-up
its operations in IT-Park Hubli.

The Cutting-edge for Indian Software Business:

STPI offers a 100% export oriented unit scheme for the development and export of
software . Acting on behalf of the Govt. of India, STPI takes care of statutory needs of
software exporters like project approval, import approval, bonding, export certification
etc.

STP scheme is ideal for software exporters and provides them with benefits like :

 Setting up of projects anywhere in the country

 100% foreign equity participation
 Duty free import of software and hardware
 Import of second hand capital goods and re export of capital goods
 Simplified minimum export performance-USD 0.25 million or 3 times the
CIF value of imported capital goods whichever is higher and 10% net
foreign exchange earnings against export earnings.
 Sales in Domestic Tariff Area(DTA) permissible up to 50% of export in value
terms.
 Corporate income tax exemption up to 90%
 Locally purchased capital goods exempted from excise duty purposed and
reimbursements of Central Sale Tax
 Capital invested by foreign entrepreneurs (know how fees ,royalty, dividend
etc)repatriated after payment of income taxes due on them if any.
 Depreciation on capital goods can be claimed to a maximum of 90% over a
period of five years.

Started in May-2001, the center is housed in IT Park of KEONICS in the heart of Hubli
city.

 Serves as the gateway to North Karnataka region with its office and gateway
(Satellite Earth station)

SOFTNET SERVICES:

Soft NET is a comprehensive data-communication service, which meets the software

export community’s need for high speed, reliable connectivity between offshore
development facilities and partners’ abroad, in addition to providing Internet connectivity.

With the services spread across most of the strategic locations in the county, STPI is a
category ‘A’ ISP and a licensed international communication service provider.

Soft NET provides total and immediate response to the customer needs using the lead
communication technologies and flexibility of service. Pioneering the services, Soft NET
has demonstrated many technologies that were the first of their kind in India.

 First to offer Digital private lines through Multiple Access Radio (MAR) Network-
1992.

 First to offer Commercial Internet Services in India-1993

 First to demonstrate Video Conferencing capabilites-1993.
