The measurement will appear on the Takeoff list.
14.2 Linking Multiple Bill Items to One Measure
There are no limits to the number of Bill items that can be attached to one measurement.
Using the different dimensions and variables one can measure different Bill items with one
Takeoff. An example could be measuring the area of a room. The area with the correct
variables can be used for items such as slabs and tiling but remember that the perimeter is
also captured on that same measurement and combined with the correct variables it can be
used for cornices, plaster and paintwork.
Variables
Variables will be required in the measurement to calculate the correct quantity for
multiple Bill items using one Takeoff measurement. The internal area of a building
will give the area of the floor and ceiling but would need a variable (thickness) to
calculate the volume of concrete in the surface bed.
Variable properties
A variable is made up of five fields:
Name
This is the reference which identifies the variable from others in the Takeoff,
it can be as brief as H (for height) or T (for thickness), the reference is user
defined and will be used in formulae (explained below).
Quantity
The variable may have a simple value, or the value may be derived
from a formula (explained below). A simple value is entered in this
cell.
Unit
For reference purposes the unit type is entered here.
Formula
When a formula is used to calculate the variable value, the formula is
entered here. Formulae can use Dimension names, Variables and support
mathematical functions such as sine, cosine and tangent. Only variables
above the variable being entered can be used in the formula.
It is also possible to Copy and Paste formula from a variable previously
entered, amended to suite without impacting the source copied from.
