AIM
The main objective of Road Safety Audits is to identify safety deficiencies in road infrastructure
so that appropriate preventive measures can be adopted.

Road safety audits can detect:

V Obvious dangerous aspects such as the presence of obstacles on the margins.

V Real dangerous situations such as poor visibility.
V Absences and deficiencies in road equipment.
V Potentially dangerous situations due to traffic conditions.
• Substandard situations.

ROAD SAFETY

Once the problems have been identified and their severity determined, improvement measures are
recommended, determining their application time according to the severity of the problem to be solved. This is
done according to the category of problems under which the evaluated route is analyzed:

• Generic road safety problems.

• Security issues.

ROAD SAFETY
Coexistence of transit flows
F - Highest level of risk: It involves a high
risk of accidents, with the most
vulnerable users being the most affected.

• Channeling of flows
• Installation of railings in the
sidewalks
• Installation of bollards on sidewalks
• Traffic access control, pedestrianization
of the road.
Problem Description • Installing ears (widening corners)

Users of different types (pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, cars, etc.) come together
on the same road, and each of them has different needs.

recommended ones
• Increase in maintenance activities.
• Replacing defective signals.
• Anti-slip road markings.

The poor condition of road signs and equipment can cause confusion and accidents for road users. It should not be forgotten
that poor signage can be just as dangerous as none at all.

ANALYSIS OF AUDITS OF
ROAD SAFETY

Poor visibility of signs is

comparable to no signs at
all. Poor perception of
traffic signs causes road
users to be ignorant, lack of
anticipation, and have
doubts, which leads to a
high risk of accidents.
Among the main causes
that can affect the visibility
of the signage, we can
highlight the presence of
badly parked vehicles, poorly maintained vegetation or poorly placed street furniture.

pedestrian.
• Facility of railings in the
stools that prevent that the
pedestrians invade the lanes
reserved for motor vehicles, channeling them to the established crossing
points.

The lack of pedestrian crossings means that pedestrians cross the street at any point,
increasing the risk of being run over.

Recommended
solutions

maintenance of the system to

Use of
permeable. of pavements

Anti-slip road markings.

Problem Description
Inadequate drainage of the road poses a high risk of vehicles aquaplaning, increasing the risk of accidents. The accumulation of water on the roadway also causes a nuisance for
pedestrians both when crossing the road and when they are splashed by vehicles travelling on the lane of the road closest to the sidewalk.
