Zechariah

Chapter 1

1. In the eighth month of the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to Zechariah, son of
Berechiah, son of Iddo, the prophet, saying: 2. "The Lord was very angry with your ancestors. 3. So, say
to them, 'The Lord of Hosts (God of the heavenly armies) says: "Return to Me, and I will return to you."
4. Do not be like your ancestors, whom the prophets warned to turn from their evil ways, but they did
not listen to Me,' says the Lord. 5. 'Where are your ancestors now? And do the prophets live forever? 6.
But My words reached your ancestors, and they repented, saying, "The Lord has done to us as He
planned."' 7. On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, in the second year of Darius, the word of
the Lord came again to Zechariah: 8. "I saw a man on a red horse, standing among the myrtle trees (a
symbol of peace), with other horses—red, brown, and white. 9. I asked, 'What are these, my lord?' The
angel said, 'I will show you.' 10. The man among the myrtle trees said, 'These are the ones sent to patrol
(travel around to observe) the earth.' 11. They reported to the Angel of the Lord, 'We have walked
through the earth, and all is at peace.' 12. The Angel of the Lord said, 'How long will You not have mercy
on Jerusalem, since You’ve been angry for seventy years?' 13. The Lord answered the angel with
comforting words. 14. The angel said, 'Proclaim: "The Lord is passionate for Jerusalem and Zion (God’s
chosen city). 15. I am angry with the nations at ease (resting or complacent); I was only a little angry, but
they acted with evil intent." 16. Therefore, the Lord says: 'I am returning to Jerusalem with mercy, and
My house will be rebuilt,' says the Lord, 'with a measuring line (symbolizing God's plan) over it.' 17.
Proclaim: "The Lord will comfort Zion and choose Jerusalem again." 18. Then I saw four horns (symbols
of power). 19. I asked, 'What are these?' He answered, 'These are the horns that scattered Judah, Israel,
and Jerusalem.' 20. The Lord showed me four craftsmen (agents of God's judgment). 21. I asked, 'What
are these coming to do?' He replied, 'The craftsmen will throw down the horns that scattered Judah.'"

Chapter 2

1. I looked up and saw a man holding a measuring line (an instrument used for measurement,
symbolizing God's plan) in his hand. 2. I asked, "Where are you going?" He replied, "I’m measuring
Jerusalem (the city chosen by God) to determine its width and length." 3. The angel who had been
speaking with me went out, and another angel approached to meet him. 4. The second angel said,
"Quickly speak to the young man and say: 'Jerusalem will be so full of people and livestock that it will be
like a city with no walls.'" 5. "For I," says the Lord, "will be a wall of fire (representing God’s protection)
around her, and I will be the glory (God’s visible presence) within her." 6. "Come, flee from the land of
the north," says the Lord, "for I have scattered you like the four winds of heaven (meaning God's power
has spread you everywhere)." 7. "Escape, Zion (God’s chosen city), you who live with the daughter of
Babylon (Babylon, representing exile and oppression)." 8. For the Lord of Hosts (God as the leader of the
heavenly armies) says: "He sent Me to bring glory (to fulfill God’s purpose) to the nations that took your
possessions. Whoever harms you harms the apple of His eye (something deeply cherished and protected
by God)." 9. "I will lift My hand (execute judgment) against them, and they will become plunder (spoil)
for their own servants. Then you will know that the Lord of Hosts has sent Me." 10. "Sing and rejoice, O
daughter of Zion (Jerusalem), for I am coming to live among you," says the Lord. 11. "Many nations will
join themselves to the Lord on that day, and they will be My people. I will dwell among you, and you will
know that the Lord of Hosts has sent Me to you." 12. "The Lord will claim Judah (the southern kingdom
of Israel) as His inheritance in the Holy Land (the land of Israel) and will once again choose Jerusalem."
13. "Be silent, all people (all nations), before the Lord, for He has risen from His holy dwelling (His sacred
place)!"

Chapter 3

1. Then I saw Joshua (the high priest of Israel) standing before the Angel of the Lord, with Satan (the
accuser) standing at his right side to accuse him. 2. The Lord said to Satan, "The Lord rebuke you, Satan!
The Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is this not a stick (a piece of wood, symbolizing
something saved) pulled from the fire (rescued from destruction)?" 3. Joshua was dressed in filthy
clothes (symbolizing sin) and standing before the Angel. 4. The Angel told those standing before Him,
"Take off his filthy clothes." And to Joshua, He said, "I have taken away your sin and will dress you in fine
clothes (symbolizing purity and righteousness)." 5. I said, "Put a clean turban (head covering symbolizing
priesthood) on his head." So they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him, and the Angel of the
Lord stood by. 6. The Angel of the Lord then gave Joshua this command: 7. "The Lord of hosts (God as
the commander of heaven’s armies) says: 'If you follow My ways and keep My commands, you will
govern (rule) My house and have charge over My courts, and I will give you a place among those
standing here (in God's presence).'" 8. "Listen, Joshua, you and your companions (fellow priests), for
they are a sign (symbolic). I am bringing My Servant, the BRANCH (a title for the coming Messiah,
Jesus)." 9. "See the stone (a symbol of strength and foundation) I have set before Joshua? It has seven
eyes (symbolizing God's perfect knowledge). I will engrave an inscription on it and remove the sin of the
land in a single day." 10. "On that day," says the Lord of hosts, "each of you will invite your neighbor to
sit under your vine and fig tree (symbols of peace, prosperity, and security)."

Chapter 4

1. Then the angel who had been speaking to me returned and woke me, as a man is woken from sleep.
2. He asked, "What do you see?" I replied, "I see a lampstand made of solid gold, with a bowl on top of
it. There are seven lamps (lights) on it, and seven pipes leading to each lamp." 3. "Two olive trees (trees
representing God's provision and the Holy Spirit) are beside it, one on the right of the bowl and one on
the left." 4. I asked the angel, "What do these things mean, my lord?" 5. The angel responded, "Do you
not know what these are?" I said, "No, my lord." 6. He said, "This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel
(the governor of Judah, responsible for rebuilding the temple): 'It is not by might (physical strength) nor
by power (human effort), but by My Spirit (God's divine power),' says the Lord of hosts (a title for God as
ruler of the heavenly armies)." 7. "Who are you, O great mountain (symbolizing obstacles)? Before
Zerubbabel, you will become a flat plain! And he will bring out the capstone (the final stone placed to
complete the building) with shouts of 'Grace, grace to it!'" 8. Then the word of the Lord came to me: 9.
"Zerubbabel has begun the work of laying the foundation of this temple, and his hands will also
complete it. Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent me to you." 10. "Who despises the day
of small things (the humble beginning of a great project)? These seven (the seven lamps) rejoice to see
the plumb line (a measuring tool for straightness, symbolizing God's standard) in Zerubbabel's hand.
They are the eyes of the Lord (representing God's watchful care), which roam throughout the earth." 11.
I asked the angel, "What are these two olive trees, one on the right and one on the left of the
lampstand?" 12. I asked further, "What are these two olive branches (branches symbolizing the flow of
God's Spirit) that pour golden oil (representing the Holy Spirit) from themselves into the golden pipes?"
13. The angel replied, "Do you not understand what these are?" I said, "No, my lord." 14. He said, "These
are the two anointed ones (God’s chosen leaders), who stand beside the Lord of the whole earth."

Chapter 5

1. Then I looked up and saw a flying scroll. 2. The angel asked, "What do you see?" I replied, "I see a
flying scroll. It is twenty cubits long and ten cubits wide." 3. He said to me, "This is the curse that will go
out over the whole earth: 'Every thief will be driven out' (from this side of the scroll) and 'Every liar will
be driven out' (from that side)." 4. "I will send this curse," says the Lord of hosts (a title for God as ruler
of heavenly armies); "It will enter the house of the thief and the house of the one who swears falsely by
My name. It will remain in the house and consume it, along with its beams and stones." 5. Then the
angel who spoke with me came out and said, "Look up and see what is coming." 6. I asked, "What is it?"
He replied, "It is a basket going forth." He said, "This is their appearance throughout the earth." 7. "Here
is a lead disc (a heavy cover) lifted up, and there is a woman sitting inside the basket." 8. He said, "This is
Wickedness!" Then he pushed her down into the basket and closed its lid with the lead cover. 9. I looked
up again and saw two women coming, with wind (symbolizing God's power) in their wings. They had
wings like storks (large), and they lifted the basket between heaven and earth. 10. I asked the angel,
"Where are they taking the basket?" 11. He answered, "To build a house for it in the land of Shinar (an
ancient region); when it is ready, the basket will be set there on its base."

Chapter 6

1. I looked up and saw four chariots coming from between two bronze (strong metal) mountains. 2. The
first chariot had red horses, the second had black horses, 3. the third had white horses, and the fourth
had dappled (spotted) horses—strong steeds (horses). 4. I asked the angel, "What are these, my lord?"
5. The angel answered, "These are the four spirits (messengers or angels) of heaven, sent by the Lord of
all the earth. 6. The black horses go to the north, the white follow, and the dappled go to the south." 7.
The strong steeds (horses) eagerly went out, traveling throughout the earth, as God commanded. 8. The
angel said, "The ones going to the north have brought rest to My Spirit (peace) in that land." 9. Then the
word of the Lord came to me: 10. "Take the gift from the captives—Heldai, Tobijah, and Jedaiah, who
came from Babylon (a city in Mesopotamia). Go to the house of Josiah son of Zephaniah, 11. and make a
crown from the silver and gold, and set it on Joshua (a high priest), the son of Jehozadak (a priest). 12.
Say to him, 'The Lord says: "Behold, the Man called the Branch (a title for the Messiah)! He will build the
temple of the Lord. 13. He will sit and rule on His throne, be a priest on His throne, and bring peace
(harmony) between them both." 14. The crown will be a memorial (symbolic reminder) in the Lord's
temple for Helem, Tobijah, Jedaiah, and Hen the son of Zephaniah. 15. People from afar will come to
build the temple of the Lord. You will know that the Lord has sent me to you if you obey His voice.

Chapter 7
1. In the fourth year of King Darius (the Persian king), on the fourth day of the ninth month, Chislev (a
month on the Hebrew calendar), the word of the Lord came to Zechariah. 2. The people sent Sherezer
and Regem-Melech with their men to the house of God to pray and ask the priests (religious leaders)
and prophets, 3. "Should I continue to weep and fast in the fifth month (the month of Av, mourning the
destruction of the Temple) as I have done for many years?" 4. Then the Lord spoke to me, saying, 5. "Tell
the people and priests: 'When you fasted and mourned during the fifth and seventh months for seventy
years (the time of Babylonian exile), did you really do it for Me? 6. When you eat and drink, is it not for
yourselves (selfishly)? 7. Should you not have obeyed the words of the Lord when Jerusalem and its
cities were prosperous, and the southern regions (the Negev, the southern part of Judah) were
inhabited?'" 8. Then the Lord said to Zechariah, 9. "This is what the Lord of hosts (God Almighty) says:
'Administer true justice, show mercy and compassion to one another. 10. Do not oppress the widow (a
woman whose husband has died), the orphan (a child whose parents have died), the foreigner (someone
from another land), or the poor (those in need). Do not plan evil against your brother in your heart (evil
intentions).'" 11. But they refused to listen, they shrugged their shoulders (a gesture of rejection), and
stopped their ears so they could not hear. 12. They hardened their hearts like flint (a very hard stone),
refusing to listen to the law and the words of the prophets, and so great wrath (anger) came from the
Lord. 13. "As they refused to listen, so when they called out, I would not listen," says the Lord of hosts.
14. "I scattered them with a whirlwind (a destructive storm) among nations they had never known. The
land became desolate (empty), and no one returned, for they made the pleasant land desolate."

Chapter 8

1. The word of the Lord Almighty (Lord of all heavenly armies) came, saying, 2. "I am passionate
(zealous) for Zion, and I am zealous for her with great fervor (intense enthusiasm)." 3. "I will return to
Jerusalem and live there. It will be called the City of Truth, the Mountain of the Lord, the Holy
Mountain." 4. "Old men and women will sit in Jerusalem’s streets, each with a staff because of age." 5.
The streets will be filled with boys and girls playing." 6. "If this seems marvelous (extraordinary) to the
remnant (the remaining people) in these days, will it be any less so in My eyes?" declares the Lord
Almighty. 7. "I will save My people from the east and west, 8. and they will return and dwell (live) in
Jerusalem. They will be My people, and I will be their God, in truth and righteousness (justice)." 9. "Be
strong, all of you who have heard these words from the prophets, 10. when the foundation (base) for
the temple of the Lord Almighty was laid. Before this time, there was no peace or security (safety). 11.
But now I will not deal with the remnant as I did in the past," says the Lord Almighty. 12. "The seed will
prosper (thrive), the vine will bear fruit, the land will yield (produce) its harvest, and the heavens will
send their dew (moisture). 13. I will bless the remnant and cause them to possess (own) all these
blessings." 14. "Just as I had planned to punish you when your ancestors provoked (angered) Me to
wrath (fury), 15. so now I have decided to do good to Jerusalem and Judah. Do not fear." 16. "These are
the things you must do: Speak the truth to your neighbor; judge justly (fairly) for truth, peace, and
righteousness. 17. Do not plot (plan) evil in your hearts, and do not love false oaths (lies). For these
things I hate," declares the Lord. 18. The word of the Lord Almighty came to me, saying, 19. "The fasts
(periods of fasting) of the fourth, fifth, seventh, and tenth months will be turned to joy and gladness for
the house of Judah. Love truth and peace." 20. "Peoples (groups of people) will come, the inhabitants
(residents) of many cities. 21. The people of one city will go to another, saying, 'Let us go and seek the
Lord of hosts (Lord of all heavenly armies); I will go with you.' 22. Many nations and strong peoples will
come to seek the Lord of hosts in Jerusalem, to pray before Him." 23. "In those days, ten men from
every nation will take hold of a Jew’s garment, saying, 'Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is
with you.'"

Chapter 9

1. The burden (judgment or prophecy) of the Lord came against the land of Hadrach (a city near
Damascus), and Damascus (the capital of Syria) is its resting place. For the eyes of all men and the tribes
of Israel are on the Lord. 2. This judgment is also against Hamath (a city north of Israel), which borders
Hadrach, and against Tyre (a Phoenician city) and Sidon (another Phoenician city), though they are very
wise. 3. Tyre built a strong tower, amassing silver like dust and gold like mud in the streets. 4. But the
Lord will cast her down; He will destroy her power at sea, and she will be consumed by fire. 5. Ashkelon
(a Philistine city) will see it and be afraid; Gaza (another Philistine city) will mourn deeply, and Ekron (a
Philistine city) will lose all hope. The king of Gaza will perish, and Ashkelon will be left uninhabited. 6. A
mixed people will settle in Ashdod (a Philistine city), and I will cut off the pride of the Philistines. 7. I will
remove the blood from their mouths and the detestable (unclean) things from between their teeth. But
the remnant (what is left) will belong to God and will be like a leader in Judah. Ekron will be like the
Jebusites (a people in Jerusalem before it was conquered by David). 8. I will protect My house, guarding
it against armies. No oppressor will pass through them anymore, for I have seen with My own eyes. 9.
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! See, your King is coming to you. He
is righteous and brings salvation, humble, and riding on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey. 10. I will
cut off the chariot from Ephraim (a tribe of Israel) and the horse from Jerusalem. The battle bow will be
broken. He will proclaim peace to the nations; His reign will extend "from sea to sea, and from the River
to the ends of the earth." 11. As for you, because of the blood of your covenant, I will release your
prisoners from the dry pit (a symbol of hopelessness). 12. Return to the stronghold (fortress), O
prisoners of hope. Even now, I declare that I will restore double to you. 13. For I have bent Judah like a
bow, and made Ephraim its arrow. I will raise up your sons, O Zion, against your sons, O Greece
(representing nations opposing God), and make you like the sword of a mighty man. 14. Then the Lord
will appear over them, and His arrow will go forth like lightning. The Lord God will sound the trumpet
and go with whirlwinds from the south. 15. The Lord of Hosts (God of all armies) will protect them. They
will consume and defeat their enemies with slingstones. They will drink and shout as if filled with wine.
They will be filled with blood like basins, like the corners of the altar. 16. The Lord their God will save
them on that day, as a shepherd saves His flock. They will be like jewels in a crown, lifted high like a
banner over His land. 17. How great is its goodness and beauty! Grain will make young men thrive, and
new wine will make young women joyful.

Chapter 10

1. Ask the Lord for rain during the time of the latter rain (autumn rains). He will send flashing clouds and
showers of rain, and there will be grass in the fields for everyone. 2. The idols speak empty words
(delusions); the diviners (those who predict the future) tell lies and false dreams, offering vain comfort.
So, the people wander like sheep without a shepherd, and they are troubled. 3. "My anger is aroused
against the shepherds (leaders), and I will punish the leaders of the people. For the Lord of Hosts (God’s
heavenly army) will visit His flock, the house of Judah, and make them like His royal horse in battle. 4.
From them will come the cornerstone (the foundational stone), the tent peg (a symbol of stability), the
battle bow, and every ruler together. 5. They will be like mighty men, trampling down their enemies in
the streets during battle. They will fight with the Lord’s strength, and those riding horses will be put to
shame. 6. "I will strengthen the house of Judah and save the house of Joseph (the northern tribes of
Israel). I will bring them back, for I have mercy on them. They will be as though I had never rejected
them, for I am the Lord their God, and I will listen to them. 7. Those of Ephraim (a tribe of Israel) will be
like mighty warriors, their hearts will rejoice as though they have drunk wine. Their children will rejoice
too, and their hearts will be glad in the Lord. 8. I will whistle for them and gather them. I will redeem
them, and they will increase as they did before. 9. "I will scatter them among the nations, and they will
remember Me in distant lands. They will live with their children and return to their own land. 10. I will
bring them back from Egypt (a land of captivity), and gather them from Assyria (an empire known for
conquering Israel). I will bring them to the land of Gilead (a region east of Israel) and Lebanon (a
mountainous region to the north), until there is no more room for them. 11. They will pass through the
sea in distress, and strike the waves of the sea. The depths of the River (likely the Euphrates) will dry up,
and the pride of Assyria will be humbled. The scepter (rule) of Egypt will be removed. 12. "I will
strengthen them in the Lord, and they will walk in His name," says the Lord.

Chapter 11

1. Open your doors, O Lebanon (a region with famous cedars), so fire can destroy your cedars (trees). 2.
Cry, O cypress (another type of tree), for the cedar has fallen, and the mighty trees are ruined. Cry, O
oaks of Bashan (a fertile region with strong trees), for the thick forest has been cut down. 3. The
shepherds (leaders of the flock) wail, for their glory is ruined. The lions (symbols of strength) roar, for
the pride (group) of the Jordan (a river) is desolate. 4. The Lord says, "Feed the flock for slaughter
(destruction), 5. whose owners kill them without guilt. They sell them and say, 'Blessed be the Lord, for I
am rich,' but their shepherds show no mercy (compassion)." 6. "I will no longer pity (have compassion
on) the people," says the Lord. "I will give them into the hands of their neighbors and kings (rulers), and
they will be attacked. I will not save them." 7. So, I fed the flock for slaughter, especially the poor
(needy). I took two staffs (rods): one called "Beauty" (symbol of favor) and the other "Bonds"
(symbolizing unity), and I tended the flock. 8. I dismissed three shepherds in one month; they grew
weary (tired) of me, and I of them. 9. I said, "I will not feed you. Let those who are dying die, and let
those who remain devour (consume) each other." 10. I broke my staff "Beauty," breaking the covenant
(agreement) with all the peoples. 11. The poor of the flock knew it was the word of the Lord when the
covenant was broken. 12. I said, "If it’s agreeable (acceptable) to you, give me my wages (payment); if
not, let it be." They paid me thirty pieces of silver. 13. The Lord said, "Throw it to the potter" (a
craftsman)—that princely price (value) they set on me. So, I threw it into the house of the Lord, to the
potter. 14. I broke my second staff, "Bonds," to break the unity (brotherhood) between Judah (southern
kingdom of Israel) and Israel (northern kingdom). 15. The Lord said, "Now take the tools of a foolish
shepherd (a bad leader). 16. "I will raise up a shepherd who will not care for the lost, seek the young,
heal the wounded, or feed the healthy. He will devour the fat (the best) and tear the hooves (feet) in
pieces." 17. "Woe to the worthless (useless) shepherd who abandons the flock! A sword (weapon) will
strike his arm and right eye; his arm will wither (become useless), and his right eye will be blinded."

Chapter 12
1. This is the burden (weighty message) of the Lord’s word against Israel. Says the Lord, who stretches
out the heavens, lays the earth’s foundation, and forms the spirit (inner being) of man within him: 2.
"Behold, I will make Jerusalem like a cup of confusion (intoxication) to all the surrounding nations when
they lay siege (military attack) against Judah and Jerusalem. 3. On that day, I will make Jerusalem a
heavy stone for all peoples; whoever tries to lift it will be severely wounded (cut in pieces), even though
all the nations of the earth gather against it. 4. On that day," says the Lord, "I will strike every horse with
panic (confusion), and its rider with madness (delirium); I will keep My eyes on the house of Judah, and
will strike the horses of the other nations with blindness. 5. The leaders (governors) of Judah will say to
themselves, 'The people of Jerusalem are my strength in the Lord of armies (hosts), their God.' 6. On
that day, I will make the leaders of Judah like a firepan (metal pan) in the woodpile, and like a fiery torch
in the sheaves (grain bundles); they will destroy (devour) all the surrounding peoples, but Jerusalem will
remain in her place—Jerusalem. 7. "The Lord will protect the tents (homes) of Judah first, so that the
glory (honor) of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem will not exceed that of
Judah. 8. On that day, the Lord will defend (protect) the people of Jerusalem. Even the weakest among
them will be like David, and the house of David will be like God, like the Angel (messenger) of the Lord
before them. 9. On that day, I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. 10. "I will
pour out the Spirit of grace (unmerited favor) and prayer on the house of David and the people of
Jerusalem. They will look at Me, the One they pierced (wounded), and mourn (grieve) for Him as for an
only son, and weep for Him as for a firstborn. 11. On that day, there will be great mourning in Jerusalem,
like the mourning at Hadad Rimmon (a place of lamentation) in the valley of Megiddo (a valley
associated with conflict). 12. The land will mourn, each family separately: the family of the house of
David by itself, and their wives by themselves; 13. the family of the house of Nathan by itself, and their
wives by themselves; the family of the house of Levi by itself, and their wives by themselves; 14. the
family of Shimei by itself, and their wives by themselves; all the remaining families will mourn
separately, each family by itself, and their wives by themselves.

Chapter 13

1. "On that day, a fountain (source of cleansing water) will be opened for the house of David and the
people of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin (wrongdoing) and impurity (uncleanliness). 2. "On that
day," says the Lord of hosts (armies), "I will remove the names of idols (false gods or images) from the
land, and they will no longer be remembered. I will also banish (remove) the false prophets (people who
claim to speak for God but lie) and the unclean spirit (evil influence) from the land. 3. If anyone still
prophesies (speaks falsely in God’s name), his parents will say to him, 'You shall not live, for you have
spoken lies in the name of the Lord.' They will kill him when he prophesies. 4. "On that day, every
prophet (someone who speaks for God) will be ashamed of their vision (message) and will no longer
wear rough clothes (coarse garments, often worn by prophets) to deceive (trick) others. 5. They will say,
'I am not a prophet (one who speaks for God); I am a farmer (someone who works the land), for I was
taught to tend livestock (care for animals like cattle) from my youth (since I was young).' 6. Someone will
ask, 'What are these wounds on your body?' And he will answer, 'I was wounded in the house of my
friends (betrayed by close associates).' 7. "Awake (arise), O sword (symbol of judgment), against My
Shepherd (leader or guide, referring to Jesus), against the Man who is My Companion (close associate or
equal)," says the Lord of hosts. "Strike the Shepherd, and the sheep (followers) will be scattered. I will
turn My hand against the little ones (the young or vulnerable). 8. "In all the land," says the Lord, "two-
thirds (2/3) will be cut off (killed) and die, but one-third (1/3) will remain. 9. "I will bring the one-third
(1/3) through the fire (symbol of testing), refine them as silver (process of purification) and test them as
gold (a precious metal, purified by fire). They will call on My name, and I will answer them. I will say,
'These are My people,' and they will say, 'The Lord is my God.'"

your midst (middle). 2. "I will gather all the nations (countries or peoples) to battle against Jerusalem.

the south." 5. "You will flee through the valley of My mountain, which will reach to Azal (a place near
Jerusalem). You will flee as you did during the earthquake in the days of Uzziah (King of Judah). Then the

will be no light, and the sun and moon will grow dim (lose brightness)." 7. "It will be one unique (one-of-

tongues will melt in their mouths." 13. "On that day, a great panic (fear or anxiety) will strike them.
Everyone will grab the hand of their neighbor and raise their hand against their neighbor's hand." 14.

cattle in the camps of those nations." 16. "The survivors (those who remain) of the nations that fought
against Jerusalem will come year after year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts (God), and to
celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles (a festival of thanksgiving)." 17. "If any family does not come to
Jerusalem to worship the King, they will not receive rain." 18. "If the family of Egypt (a nation in
northeastern Africa) does not come up and worship, they will receive no rain and will be struck by the
plague that afflicts the nations that do not come to the Feast of Tabernacles." 19. "This will be the
punishment (penalty or consequence) for Egypt and all the nations that do not come to celebrate the
Feast of Tabernacles." 20. "On that day, 'HOLINESS TO THE LORD' will be engraved (carved) on the bells
of the horses. The pots in the Lord's house will be like the bowls before the altar." 21. "Every pot in
Jerusalem and Judah will be holy (set apart for God) to the Lord of hosts. Everyone who comes to offer
sacrifices will take them and cook in them. There will no longer be a Canaanite (a term for a foreigner or
idol worshiper) in the house of the Lord of hosts."
