ADMISSION OF STUDENTS TO COURSES CONDUCTED
AT COLLEGES OF TECHNOLOGY/ TECHNICAL COLLEGES – 2023
APPLICATIONS are invited from eligible candidates for the courses conducted in Colleges of Technology/
Technical Colleges appearing in this notification. Students will be selected for admission according to their
qualifications and merit order, and the capacity in each course.
02. The prospective candidates are advised to prepare applications by themselves on an A4 sheet of paper in
accordance with the “Specimen Application form” given in this notification. Duly completed applications should
be sent under Registered Cover to reach the Director/ Principal of the respective College of Technology/
Technical College on or before 23.01.2023 or can be handed over to the ‘Career Guidance Unit’ of the
relevant college.

All details in this connection are published in the web site [Link] and your application for courses, can
also be submitted through [Link] web site. Please be kind enough to send the applications for the
NVQ level 5/6 courses only through online.
03. The top left-hand corner of the envelope should be marked with the title of the course applied for, with it’s
course code. Eg: National Diploma in Construction Technology - ETB 05

04. Applications received after the closing date will be considered only if the vacancies are available.

05. On the job training (OJT) of six (6) months is compulsory for all full-time courses of NVQ (National
Vocational Qualification) level 4, 5 and 6.

06 I. All courses of Diploma (NVQ 5/6) level are conducted only in English medium.

II. All certificate (NVQ 3/4) level courses are conducted in Sinhala and Tamil medium, except the language
courses.
III. Those who register for NVQ 05 Diploma courses with NVQ 3 Qualification must obtain NVQ 4
qualification before the final semester examination.

07. Attention of all candidates is invited to the Schedule of Courses annexed at the end of this notification, which
indicates the nature of courses, eligibility requirements for each course, the colleges where the courses are
conducted with the addresses and contact numbers of Colleges of Technology/ Technical Colleges are shown in the
List of Colleges.
08. All full-time courses are conducted free of charge.

09 All Part-time courses are conducted on fee levying basis and the following nominal fees will be charged from
a student who registers for Part- time / Evening course.

I. Rs.25,000/- per year, for the courses of more than one year period of study.

II. Rs.30,000/- for the full course, for the courses of one year period of study
(installment payments can be allowed, if requested, on the basis that first installment of
Rs.15,000/- should be paid at the time of registration and the balance be paid within six months
from the commencement of the course) .

III. Rs.20,000/- for the full course, for the courses of six month period of study.

IV. Rs.10,000/- for the full course, for the courses of three month or six month period of study.

V. Total course payment should be made by the student before facing for the final examination or
assessment.

10. Pass in three subjects at G.C.E.(A/L) means three passes in main stream subjects; this does not include
General English and General Information Technology (GIT) subjects.
11. Rs.200 will be charged for registration of Full Time course
12. As an examination fee,Rs 100 will be charged for a subject/module (This is not related for the Viva
Evaluation (oral Test/Evaluation)

13. An applicant seeking admission to follow a course in these Colleges of Technology/ Technical Colleges
should-
(i) be a citizen of Sri Lanka;
(ii) have fulfilled all eligibility requirements for admission at the time of forwarding the
application.

14. Suitable candidates will be selected on the results of an aptitude test and communication skills test
conducted in the same medium of the course and an interview.

15. Any document or copies of them should not be submitted along with the application. Those candidates
who fail to produce the required and acceptable documents to prove their eligibility at the interview will be
disqualified.

16. Students of selected full time courses will receive the following additional benefits:

I. Students of ‘selected trade courses’ could be entitled to receive a monthly bursary of Rs.4,000/-
under ‘Nipunatha Sisu Saviya’, if his/her annual family income is less than Rs.500,000/- .

II. If required, students of full-time day courses can obtain concessionary season tickets for the train or
Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) buses.

17. The candidate is held entirely responsible for the authenticity of his/her documents. Candidates who
submit documents that have been tampered with or forged or not proved in fact at the interview will be
rejected.

18. If the number of students registered for the first/second/third year of a course is not sufficient to
continue the course in that college, those students would be transferred to the nearest college where the
same course is conducted.

19. Those who apply for part–time/weekend courses should submit a certification of employment in the
relevant field.

20. Further details and clarifications about the courses could be obtained by calling 011-2348893 of the

21. To get the eligibility for the final Written Examination and for the final Assessment, all students must
have recorded at least 75% of attendance and earned higher performance level at the assessments.

22. Final examination will be conducted by the Department of Technical Education & Training for the
courses introduced with course codes BSA, BSC, ECC, ETA, ETB, ETC, ESC and MCC. These students will also
sit for the NVQ evaluation tests. Other students who follow courses with NVQ codes should face NVQ
assessments only.

23. Director General of this Department has the discretion to commence or suspend a course, in case a
sufficient number of applications is not received for a course, at a college listed in this gazette for 2023.
