Sneak peek into my classroom…
Thank you so much for your purchase. Now that you have this resource
in front of you, are you wondering how to implement it into your classroom?
Below is an explanation of how I used this with my students in my classroom.
Please remember that you can choose to follow how I taught it or adapt to
meet the needs of your unique classroom. Feel free to get creative and do what
works for you!
I created this project because my students were having a hard time
understanding why seeds are formed in different ways. I wanted them to
think creatively as to what a seed would need in order to survive in
different environments. Using the task cards and worksheet provided, I
had students work in pairs and randomly choose one of the cards. Each
student was given a 2” Styrofoam ball to represent the seed. They were
given instructions to use the materials in the front of the room to create a
covering for their seed to survive the dispersal method. I also timed the
students to 15 minutes, so we had time to share what they did.
Materials that I allowed students to choose from included; straws cut
into small pieces, paper clips, wax paper, playdoh, string, ribbon, coffee
filters, and toothpicks. Many of these materials I already had in my
classroom from other science experiments. I try to use what I already
have so look around your classroom and see what can be creatively used
for each dispersal method. There is no right or wrong way to do this.
