Pharmacy vs Pharmacology
https://www.northeastern.edu/graduate/blog/pharmacology-vs-pharmacy/
Pharmacology is the study of how drugs function within the human body to help fight disease and the discovery and testing
of new drugs for that purpose. It is one critical element of the drug development process.
Pharmacy
Those who study pharmacy typically do so in order to become pharmacists, who prepare and dispense medication, monitor
its use, and collaborate with other healthcare providers to treat patients. Thus they learn how drugs are prepared and
dispensed. Pharmacists have a deep understanding of medications and their effects on the human body, disease
management, and immunology. They also study internal medicine, acute and ambulatory care, and other areas of healthcare.

D.Pharm vs B.Pharma:
Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm) is a career-oriented, 2-year long diploma course that aims to prepare candidates to work
under a licensed pharmacist in hospitals, pharmacies, etc. Candidates are trained in accurate and safe processing of
prescriptions, pharmacy software practice, third-party billing, compounding techniques, inventory control, verbal and written
communication, etc. Along with having the uses and effects of drugs, etc. on their fingertips, D.Pharm candidates should also
be well-versed in industry ethics as well.
Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharma) is a 4-year undergraduate degree course, a prerequisite for those who wish to practice
pharmacy. B.Pharma candidates learn about the preparation and distribution of medicinal drugs that can cure illnesses and
diseases. In B.Pharma, candidates learn about the chemical and organic properties of all the ingredients used while
synthesizing these medicines. After completing B.Pharma, some of the available job roles include that of pharmacists, drug
inspectors, medical underwriters, drug store owners, wholesalers, etc.

Pharm.D is clinically oriented, i.e., patient specific. Students are trained to counsel patients and inform them about the
medicine/ drug dose, time and method. The course focuses on the mechanism of a drug's actions/ side effects/ adverse drug
reactions on the body, main causes for the appearance of the disease, and its possible complications that can occur if left
untreated. Pharm.D also focuses on the lifestyle changes that a patient can implement to improve health. Pharm.D students
generally get the "clinical pharmacist" designation.
B. Pharm and M. Pharm courses are industry oriented. You get to learn about drug formulation, study various drug sources,
their molecular structure, methods to synthesize/ manufacture drugs, pharmacological actions of the drugs, and so on.
