About
Narvacan
The Spanish established the township of
Narvacan and a Roman Catholic parish was
founded in 1587, becoming one of the first in
Ilocos Sur. Narvacan came under the royal
government of Spain and its systems of
administration.

The name "Narvacan" is derived from the Iloko


word "narba," meaning "wrecked." There are
two legends about its origin. The first is the
Bantay Abot Legend, named after a prominent
mountain resembling a capsized ship, believed
to be Noah's Ark.

SANTA LUCIA PARISH CHURCH NARVACAN PRESIDENCIA

“Paraiso ni Juan” which is named after
Captain Juan Salcedo. Legend has it that
Capt. Juan Salcedo a Spanish military
officer who led a Spanish Expedition got
shipwrecked along this beach. While
being rescued by the native residents, the
Spaniards asked what was the name of
this place.
