The surface area of a pyramid can be found by adding together the areas of all of
the faces of the pyramid.
The volume of a pyramid can be found using the formula V = 13Bh, where B is the
area of the base of the pyramid and h is the height of the pyramid.
Surface Area Volume
10 ft
Area of square face = s2 V = 13Bh
6 ft = (16 ft)2
= 256 ft2 = 13(16 # 16)(6)
Area of triangular face = 13(256)(6)
16 ft
16 ft = 12bh 1,536
= 3
= 12 (16 ft)(10 ft)
= 512 ft3
= 80 ft2
4 triangular faces + 1 square face
= [4(80) + 256] ft2
= 576 ft2
1. What is the surface area of the pyramid?
Each Triangular Face Square Face
12 in. 13 in.
A = 12bh A = s2
A = 12 × 10 × A= ×
A= in.2 A= in.2 10 in. 10 in.
4 triangular faces + 1 square face
+ + + + = in.2
2. What is the volume of the pyramid?
V = 13Bh = 13 # = 3
