A: Good morning! Can I help you?
B: Yes! I hope so. Is it the job center?
A: Yes, it is. Are u lookin 4 part-time work?
B: Yes! I called earlier abt a part-time job.
A: Oh, right! We’ve got quite a lot of work available at the moment. Can I ask wat u’re studying? We try
and match students to jobs that will give them some experience in the field that they’ll be working in in
the future, where possible.
B: Yes, I’m doin a degree in advertising. I want to work 4 one of the large technology companies when I
finish.
A: Well… I doubt we have anything like that. Oh we should have sth for u. What year are you in?
B: Well I’m doin a 4-year degree and I’m in the second year. I didn’t want to take on any extra work in
my first year, while I was settling in. But I think I’m ready now.
A: Ok, well let see. We have a postion working as a food assistant.
B: Hmm… I don’t think I’d be any good working as a cook in a restaurant.
A: Oh no! It’s at the cinema, which is kind of media-related, but perhaps not enough. You’d need to be
avaiable evenings and weekends for that.
B: Maybe… Do u have any other positions?
A: Yes! A couple of other jobs came in yesterday. The local newspaper is lookin’ for a bright? Young
undergraduate to work as a salesperson in the advertising department. You’ll be phoning up local
companies and try to persuade them to take out adverts in the paper.
B: That sounds perfect! It’d be great experience for work, too. What hours do they want?
A: It’s Wednesday and Friday afternoons everyweek.
B: Oh! That’s a shame. I’m free on Wednesdays, but I have lectures on Fridays, and I can’t meet those.
A: Ok! How abt this last one? They’re lookin for an early morning receptionist, 6 until 9, but it’s right
next to the marketing department where u r based. So u’d have no problem getting to class. The
position is available in the uni media center. U’ll get some useful experience there, too, I would imagine.
B: Perfect! I’m always up early anyway.
A: Ok, great! U’ll need to go for an interview for this one, but I can set u up with that right now.
B: Great!
6-10
A: So I just need to take a few personal details from you , if that’s ok.
B: Sure!
A: So What’s ur name?
B: RUBY Desai . That’s DESAI.
A: Can I have ur student number? I can get details like ur adress from there.
B: Sure! Here is my ID card. The students number’s on the corner.
A: Ok, that’s great! I’ve got u on our computer system now. It says here that u r staying at the High Field
Halls, here on the uni campus.
B: Actually I was there last year. They haven’t updated it yet. I’ve just moved into the Green Park Halls.
It’s in the city center, next to the station, and I mean room 6003. Six double oh three
A: Ok, I’ve just changed that here, so we have ur correct address if we need to contact u. Well what
should I put down as ur main skills?
B: Uhmm… What kind of thing do u mean?
A: Well… Did u do any graphic design on ur course last year? That might be helpful for the media center.
B: Yes, I did that in my first year. Idk, I mean… The usual stuff like language skills aren’t really my thing,
but I took a course on computer programming and I did pretty well at that in my exams.
A: Great! I’d put that down. That kind of thing always comes in handy. I expect that’s enough, they r not
realy expecting anyone really high-qualified. Now I have a note here saying that u need to go for an
interview with the Head of the department.
B: Would that be in the main marketing building?
A: Actually, she’s based in the Business Servies building, which is … Let me see…. On the other side of
the campus. That’s quite annoying. It’s next to the administration building. Do u know where that is?
B: Yes, I pass it on the way everyday. When would the interview be?
A: Actually, there was an appointment on Wed morning at 9 oclock, but the student that was going to go
then cancelled. Does that suit u?
B: I have a lecture then, but I finish at 10 oclock.
A: Ok, I’ll put u in for half past ten, and that will just give 30 minutes to get there after ur class.
B: That’s perfect! Thank u for ur help!
A: U r welcome, and gud luck! I hope u’ll get it, but if not, come back and see me. I’m sure we have sth
else.
