Coffee Consumption's Impact on Student Memory

This study investigates the factors influencing Grade 10 and Senior High School students' consumption of caffeinated coffee and its effects on memory recall, which is crucial for academic performance. It aims to identify reasons for coffee consumption, such as academic stress and peer influence, and to analyze how this consumption impacts cognitive function. The research will provide context-specific data and practical recommendations for managing caffeine intake among students at CALA Institute.

Title: Factors Influencing Grade 10 and Senior High School Students’

Consumption of Caffeinated Coffee and its Effect on Memory Recall at CALA

Institute

Research focus:
This study focuses on understanding WHY Grade 10 and Senior High school
students consume caffeinated coffee (the factors influencing their decision to drink
coffee) and how coffee consumption affects their Memory recall ( a key aspect for
academic performance)
Relevance of the study:
The consumption of caffeinated coffee has become common among students, coffee is
known to impact cognitive function. However, there is limited research on why
students drink coffee.

Purpose of the study:

The primary purpose of this study is to identify and analyze the factors influencing
students to consume caffeinated coffee and to determine if this consumption has
any effect on their memory recall.

Statement of the problem:

Many Grade 10 and Senior High School students consume caffeinated coffee, yet little
research exists on the factors that influence their decisions to do so and the
effects of coffee consumption on memory recall which is critical to academic
performance. Therefore, this study aims to explore the reasons behind coffee
consumption and its impact on students’ ability to recall information.

Significance of the study:

Identify the underlying reasons for coffee consumption among students (e.g.,
academic stress, peer influence)
Determine the effects of caffeine consumption on students’ ability to recall
information that directly relates to their academic performance.
Provide practical recommendations on managing caffeine intake, considering the
potential benefits and drawbacks on cognitive function.
Methodology:
1. Data Collection: You can use surveys and questionnaires to gather data

Possible outcomes:
You may find that students who drink caffeinated coffee perform better on memory
recall tasks due to the alertness and focus caffeine provides
You might discover that students who consume caffeine excessively or rely too heavily
on coffee for studying experience negative effects, such as anxiety or sleep disturbance
The study might also reveal cultural lifestyle patterns that influence students’
consumption habits such as peer pressure, or academic pressure.
(That’s why you conduct the study because there are no exact reasons why students
intake coffee, so that’s one of your goals why you conduct the study to know the exact
different factors that influence them to intake coffee and how that coffee consumption
affects their memory recall)

Possible question:
1. Why focus on coffee consumption rather than just caffeine? Coffee is a primary
source of caffeine for many students, and its consumption has become ingrained in
student culture, particularly in relation to study habits. Studying coffee consumption
specifically allows you to narrow down the variables that affect academic performance.
2. Why measure only memory recall? Memory recall is directly tied to academic
performance, especially in subjects that require a lot of information retention.
Understanding whether coffee consumption enhances or hinders memory recall can
provide actionable insights for both students and educators.
3. What makes this study different? This research is specific to Grade 10 and Senior
High School students at CALA Institute. By focusing on this local group, the study
provides context-specific data, which is not easily generalized from broader studies. It
also looks at both the factors influencing coffee consumption and the effects on
academic performance, which few studies might combine.
4. So, what problem do you see in this study?
The main problem that this study addresses is that while it’s widely recognized that
students consume caffeinated coffee, we lack concrete, context-specific data on
why they do so and how it affects their academic performance, particularly
memory recall. Despite knowing that factors like peer pressure or stress influence
coffee consumption, we don’t have sufficient empirical evidence that links these
factors directly to how coffee consumption affects cognitive functions like
memory recall in the context of Grade 10 and Senior High School students at CALA
Institute. By identifying the specific factors and examining the relationship with memory
recall, the study provides new insights and evidence that can guide
recommendations for students and educational institutions.
2. If you already know the possible factors like peer pressure or stress are those
that influence the students' consumption of coffee, then what's the reason to
conduct this?
Even though we can hypothesize that peer pressure, stress, and workload influence
students’ decision to consume coffee, the actual effects of these factors are not fully
understood in a specific student population like those in CALA Institute. The
study’s value lies in gathering real data from students in this context, measuring how
those factors actually influence their coffee consumption behavior and whether
that consumption directly affects their memory recall.
While we may already know the general factors influencing coffee consumption, this
study is important because it will validate these assumptions through real-world
data, measuring both the reasons behind students’ choices and how those
choices affect their academic performance. It’s crucial to connect these factors to
memory recall to assess the full impact of coffee consumption on students’
cognitive functions in a concrete way.
